LCY ribbon tweeters beyond 20kHz
« on: 21 Dec 2010, 03:11 pm »
Hi guys,
Not sure whether this is the correct section to ask this technical question. (redirect me if I am wrong please)
LCY spec their dual ribbon tweeters to 60kHz and even 100kHz yet only provide frequency response plots up to 20k
Has anyone swept/used these tweeters beyond 20kHz to see if LCY's claims are true?
I am developing a LF to 50kHz soundsystem for a scientific project and need flat response to super-sonic frequencies.
All links, suggestions and help greatly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation
Dave

Forget the LCY and use a RAAL 70-10D. I've not tested it beyond 20K but it should work fine for your purpose. It's a  better design than the LCY (plus LCY has had quality control problems).

Interesting question. I can't help wondering if there are ultrasonic transducers designed specifically for that purpose.

Hi everyone,
Scotty's recommendations look a lot less 'bumpy' than the RAAL's too, so as long as they don't plunge off the cliff above 40kHz I could have found what I am looking for.
Thanks for your thoughts and kindness in taking the time to reply.
Happy New year to you all

+1 about the LCY110 driver consistency issues.  Although IIRC, the issue was around 6khz (a large hump in response not in manufacturer plots), so as a super tweeter it might be okay.  I haven't tested all the LCY tweeters.
