I built this amp to try out the SDS-254 amp with the low profile 300VA power supply. It works great, very quiet, no issues at all. I used the remote source select/volume control from Johnnie at DIYClub.biz. It uses an Alps black pot. The picture is an earlier incarnation with the CDA-254 amp in the same case. The case is from an old Chinese preamp and the tube in the front window has power to it's heater, so it lights up.

It is home built and as such looks OK, but is not a piece of audio jewelry. The balance and tone controls do not function and are glued in position. The gain controls are located inside and you can use them to set gain and balance. The volume control knob does not go flush with the others as I did not want to cut the shaft on the pot. It doesn't look bad, though and you can easily do this. The remote sensor is in the hole for the tone bypass switch. It works well and has excellent range and angle of usage.

I use very high quality gold plated isolated RCA's from Antique Electronic Supply. The speaker terminals are fairly cheap banana sockets I had lying around.

This is a great amp. I have too many projects on the go and it needs to go. It has 4 sets of inputs. I did not wire up the input selection LED's, but this can be easily accomplished with a little drilling. I'll even throw in some LED's. There are more relays than inputs, so you could always add an input or two (up to 6 total).

You can also easily upgrade the caps in the power supply for more punch at high volume levels.

Feel free to ask questions. I am looking for $295 plus shipping and I only take Paypal. This is an absolute bargain. I will guarantee that it does not arrive DOA. 125 watts per side into 8 ohms and 250 watts per side into 4 ohms. Input impedance is 50K. It drives my Maggies with ease.

I'll attach a current picture when I have a minute. Oh, and the case does have a top.

Thats very cool.  Aside from volume control, what other functions does the remote control handle?

Just source selection, volume and mute.

Photos as requested.

I'll tidy up the cabling a bit before I ship, but it's a pretty packed little chassis and the parts cost me more than the selling price!

Bump.

I have had some questions about the performance with the volume control. I felt (and posted) that the 100K volume control made the amp sound dull and lifeless when I first built the unit. This is not the case, as I discovered I had a problem elsewhere in the system (a home built tube buffer that was supposed to be part of the amp) that was rolling off the highs. This amp works great. The only improvement that could be made would be to add some resistive loading to the inputs to prevent buzz when you select an unused input.

If anyone is nervous of the whole remote volume thing, I can ship the amp as a power amp for $250 plus shipping with the volume control entirely removed.

Any takers?
