The only really problematic maintaining-type software I've encountered are those, like Spring Cleaning, that remove duplicate files, etc.

My go-to program is DiskWarrior.

I have used Onyx before but never really knew if it did anything. Guess that means it's seamless and good!

The "maintenance" application features:
 repair permissions,                          <-- Disk Utility, first aid, click on repair
 run periodic scripts,                         <-- guessing if one knows how to write scripts, then they can edit the crontab
 reset Spotlight’s Index,                     <-- rare, but google for command line
 rebuild the LaunchServices database,  <-- rare, but google for command line
 delete Application,                           <-- drag to trash can or if available use uninstall script (advanced apps will have this)
 Font and System cache,                    <-- rare, but google for command line
 check the status of the Hard disk...     <-- Disk Utility

I didn't mean to sound "harsh" I just have a gamer's mentality, i.e. don't install applications you don't need and don't be afraid of the command line.

You would have to be a geek without a life to Google for terminal strings or trawl through "man" for even 10% of what Onyx provides simply with a nice GUI for free.

And let's not forget the massive room for errors when using "rm" to simply clean your caches via the command line. If you are even wondering what the features of Onyx are, the last place you should know about is the command line.

command line is simple, i would rather google that then install some unknown software that could contain a keylogger.  But of course I do understand what rm -rf /* means.   if you don't then I would still assume this isn't the app for you.
