Are all fuse holders in IEC jacks the same?
« on: 4 Dec 2010, 10:48 pm »
I recently blew the fuse in the IEC jack of an amp.  I popped out the fuse assembly to bring with me to homedepot to replace the fuse, but lost it somewhere between my house and my car.

I am not a DIY guy and don't want to replace the whole jack--are the plastic fuse holder assemblys standardized?  I know the amp is working fine and behaving normally--the fuse was a fluke and I don't want it to impair my listening.

UPDATE:  I found it!  Back in business, just waiting on my 845Bs to arrive now

The max amperage fuse on most IEC inlets is 10 amps, but yours may be different. Your device should have an amperage rating for the fuse on the back panel. I suggest you replace it with the same type and rating (amperage and speed (fast blow, slow blow)).

I think what Gopher is saying is he just didn't lose the fuse, but the holder assembly that fits into the IEC assembly as well.

Maybe you could email the amp company and ask them to send you a replacement?

You don't seem to be having much luck with amps lately

In taking a quick look through both Mouser and Digi-key catalogs, I do not see the fuse holders listed separately from the power entry modules. I think Robin's idea is the best. Try to get a replacement from the manufacturer. If that won't work, measure the entry module (IEC inlet) and try to find one that is close in either Mouser or Digi-key. You will then have to replace it.

Yep,  the plastic assembly is the issue.  I'll give the dealer a ring tomorrow and see if he has one.  The amp is a Shuguang, so...  yeah not really an easy call to to manufacturer.

Wayne,

On the topic of fuses, I've got the one in place in my dac and will be dropping you a line shortly.

That was sent out to Atma-sphere yesterday.  A couple resisters went and I'd rather them take a look at it, do a couple updates/modernizations and get her acting optimally rather than just bringing it to a tech to replace the resisters.

The IEC with the missing fuse receiver is from a different amp, an 845 monoblock I picked up at a good price and wanted to compare to the healthy Atma-sphere to pick a winner in my system.  Both amps are liquid so I was hoping to compare and pick a winner before it came time to pay the credit card bill (refuse to keep a balance) but if little things keep going wrong this may not be an option.
