Hi Martin,

I am an OPPO dealer, and that is the info I have been given also.

The only problem is the wait.  I think it was Petty who sang about that.

So I'm guessing that the BPD-95 is what we were expecting to be the -93SE, with 3D thrown in?

The "rumors" I hear are pretty much that, and it has the XLR 2 channels outs, (although I'm not sure they are truly balanced) an improved Power Supply, 3-D video, and even something about better bass management, but no info yet.

Slight price increase to $979 (old price $899)

Now they need to get working on adding a volume control for their analog stereo and analog multi out.

and even something about better bass management

If they did indeed fix the bass management so the user can completely match speaker placement on all channels, then this unit will be killer!

Sure - make it a pre-amp too!

I wonder with the various mods for the 83/93 if they even make sense for this one.   Seems like it's very well thought out from an audio perspective.  I'm only need two channels, but love the flexibility.

If it's going to be used in a five/seven channel system and you're going to use the Oppo to convert audio to analog, they also have to fix the error that the distance from the rear channels to you can't be greater than the distance from the front channels to you.   My system is set up this way.

It is about time Oppo come up with an audiophile player.  Can't wait to hear it.  3D is not my thing, it gives me headache half of the time.

I am sure Oppo can fix the speaker distance and time delay error.  It is just a matter of software update.

If the 95 is based on the 93 then the only thing better about bass management is what the 93 received, that is, the flexibile sub crossover.  It is no longer fixed at 80hz, but now you can choose 40Hz / 60Hz / 80Hz / 90Hz / 100Hz / 110Hz / 120Hz / 150Hz / 200Hz / 250Hz.   The bigger PITA to me is the restriction that no speaker can be further from the listening position than the mains.  In the 93 that has not been fixed, and is likely on the same DSP chip used in the 95.  I've complained to Oppo about this ad nauseuem, and no Levi, it ain't just a firmware change (as you and I would have thought).  They claim the Mediatek chip is what it is, and their hands are tied, period.

Now that would be critically important for me if I am in the market for a universal audiophile blu-ray player.

I am happy with my Pioneer BDP-09FD manufactured in Japan which I haven't been using lately.

That is a very attractive price.  Specs looks truly good.  Hopefully it is much better sounding than the later.

Can any of you guys speak to the reliability of Oppo players? I'm thinking this new offering is perfect for my needs, especially since I'm very happy with my McCormack multi-channel analog preamp for HT. The last time I bought a source at the $1k price point was a Denon2900 uni player back in 2002. That thing was built like a tank and provided me many great years of enjoyment.

I'm assuming Oppo build quality and reliability is very good based on what I've read, but thought I would try and get some consumer feedback.

Thanks

It is.

And Oppo support is fabulous, in the off chance you were to run into any issues.

Ajzepp,

I've considered the same McCormack unit, as well as the Parasound P7. Let me know how it works out for you when you have the Oppo in system.

- David.

You got it. I got really frustrated trying to find a pre/pro a couple years ago, but when I found this McCormack piece I knew it was for me. Unless they stop putting multichannel analog outs on sources, I plan to keep this thing around a while. Really looking forward to picking up one of these Oppo 95s to pair with it.

The 93 has volume control via the remote.
