High Resolution Material
« on: 19 Nov 2010, 08:07 pm »
Hi Folks,

Thought it would be a good idea to have a list of where you can attain high resolution digital material. We are starting to see more and more material being released on pre-loaded USB Hard-Drives and Thumb-Drives - the Beatles Green Apple Thumb-Drive  http://www.amazon.ca/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=beatles+usb&tag=googcana-20&index=aps&hvadid=5536611203&ref=pd_sl_74s7xwbfy6_e being one example and the Cardas high-resolution Audio cards another. http://www.cardas.com/content.php?area=music&content_id=9&pagestring=USB+Audio+Cards

Got this today and Linn is offering preloaded 500G or 1TB Western Digital USB Hard-Drives as well.

Thanks, that is a good list.  I have had good success with HD Tracks but have not tried the others since I have no capability to play files beyond 24bit/96khz.  Obviously, I need/want a BDP-1  :D

Not to take anything away from Bryston's new player (which looks like it is hitting the market at the right time), but for those of us just testing the waters, is there another way to do this?  Do you know whether it is possible to load some of these tracks up on a CD/DVD and play them via a player such as the OPPO (sending them to a DAC from there)?  It would be fun to try out some of these tracks without having to reconfigure my system (for now).

Thanks for the links.  This is exactly what I have been looking for.

If your computer has a digital out, you could load them there and play to the BDA-1. All macs do 24/96.

As with 16/44.1, the quality of the recording, mixing and mastering have a huge effect.

Vinyl is actually hi-res. Analog has a higher sampling rate than digital. It's true...

The following will get it done with Bryston products highlighted in red.  1.  Download hi-res files to your computer. 2.  Transfer the files to a USB storage device (hard drive, thumb drive, or solid state drive). 3.  Plug USB storage device into Bryston BDP-1 4.  BDP-1 feeds digital data to DAC Bryston BDA-1 5.  BDA-1 feeds analog to Bryston Preamp (your choice) 6.  Preamp feeds Bryston Amp (your choice)   :thumb:

Analog actually doesn't have any sampling rate. It's continuous. What you're discussing there is bandwidth, linearity and signal/noise ratio.

Apparently s/n was very important for the american public. More important than anything else. Witness the Dolby B thing.
