By the way, we here at Audio Circle have a WHOLE CIRCLE dedicated to hirez music, with all the lists, primers, how-to's etc...
As with all AC Circles, I promised AC leadership that we'd keep it to the subject, in this case to hirez (no cd, vinyl, etc) and promised to link back or move subjects that should be in other Circles.  Feel free to visit and participate.

Analog actually doesn't have any sampling rate. It's continuous. What you're discussing there is bandwidth, linearity and signal/noise ratio.

Apparently s/n was very important for the american public. More important than anything else. Witness the Dolby B thing.

nap.

That doesn't mean that ANALOG is not superior to digital. Because it is!

IN MY OPINION.

Dave, depends on how far you want to go in each direction.

If we're talking 24/192 vs. casette tape, I'll take the digital any day thank you.

If we're talking 16/44.1 CD vs. studio master tape, I'll take the tape any day thank you.

And speaking of amps, an expensive digital amp will cream the average BestBuy amps, while your Bryston will cream all of them.

Hmmmm,let see,I have a bcd-1 cpd,a Clearaudio TT,hmmmmmm,cd,lp,cd,lp.....got it :hyper:,
I'll spin a cd and a LP as I like them both, depends on my mood and convenience.
Cd's on my Bryston, great sound and convenient,
Lp's,I have to get off the couch and it's a bit more physical movement, but the sound is really, really,
nice also.I'm glad I have both, and I'm glad I even have a radio in my van.
She's all music to me,no matter what the source, even sounds of silence :thumb:.

So where do you stand on VINYL?

Hopefully evenly around the center so you don't break or warp the record :D

I like the overall sound character of vinyl but I prefer the convenience of CDs.

Fair enough. I do like the convenience of cd too. But, for me vinyl's where it's at, especially if you listen with a good turntable/cartridge and the BRYSTON phono stage.

Lps are noisy ,wear out his after a few playing , and suffer from the need of the RIAA curve . I'd take digital (if well engineered) any time. CD has improved since the 1980s junk that was being transcribed to digital. The stuff just gave the new technology a bad start. It's all what our ears tell us I guess but different doesn't mean inferior. In my opinion, as one who has been on both sides of this worn out  argument, it's all a personal preference to either of two excellent mediums. :thumb:
