Patricia Barber:

Patricia Barber - The Cole Porter Mix

Personnel: Patricia Barber (vocals, melodica, piano); Neal Alger (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Chris Potter (tenor saxophone); Michael Arnopol (bass instrument); Nate Smith , Eric Montzka (drums, percussion); Eric Montza, Nate Smith (drum, percussion).

Product Reviews:

Down Beat (p.69) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Barber puts her most personal stamp on a program that includes three fetching originals. Barber's take on Porter is definitive, her modern stance with standards still carrying a punch."

JazzTimes (p.58) - "[A]ugmenting the eight Porter gems covered here, Barber adds three of her own compositions, all intended to capture the Cole zeitgeist."

Mojo (Publisher) (p.106) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Barber and her quartet slow 'I Get A Kick Out Of You' to sensual languor and suffuse 'Miss Otis Regrets' with drama. 'You're The Top' gets a whimsical lyrical update..."

Tidal does not appear to have this, but I am very much enjoying a mix of songs pulled from different albums.

Thanks!  :thumb:

Another nice one from Shirley Horn.

Shirley Horn - May the Music Never End

Personnel: Shirley Horn (vocals); George Masterhazy (piano); Ed Howard (bass); Steve Williams (drums).  Additional personnel: Roy Hargrove (flugelhorn); Ahmad Jamal (piano).

Recorded at The Hit Factory, New York, New York on February 3-5, 2003.

Product Reviews:

Q (11/03, p.113) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Horn remains one of jazz's great song interpreters....Remarkable..."

CMJ (6/30/03, p.31) - "...Singer Shirley Horn has a way of unhurriedly working through ballads, using comfortable silences as innuendo..."

JazzTimes (8/03, p.118) - "...Shimmeringly transcendent....There's a wry smile in her voice as she navigates a choppy sub-current of surviving. Nowhere is this more masterfully evident than on Paul McCartney's 'Yesterday'..."

Your welcome. I have a few Kuhn solo albums and they are all excellent. "Trance" seems extra special. I have a few with Kuhn as a sideman also with the likes of Steve Swallow, David Darling which come highly recommended. I need more of his albums, he certainly has a large catalog as leader & sideman, enjoy!

The McCoy Tyner Trio - Infinity

Personnel: McCoy Tyner: piano; Michael Brecker: tenor saxophone; Avery Sharpe: bass; Aaron Scott: drums; Valtinho Anastacio: congas, percussion.

Reviews:

Down Beat (10/95, pp.47-48) - 3.5 Stars - Good/Very Good - "...Brecker ardently keeps pace with the pianist. It's one of the tenor player's most zealous outings in a while....The message is one of fierce pride in the collective virtuosity at play....The pianist's gleeful boogie--like most of INFINITY'S components--has a way of being daring and discrete."

JazzTimes (4/96, p.74) - "...a solid, very respectable account of the current Tyner, his well-oiled trio,...and supercharged tenor saxophonist Mike Brecker..."
