The McCoy Tyner Trio - Infinity

Personnel: McCoy Tyner: piano; Michael Brecker: tenor saxophone; Avery Sharpe: bass; Aaron Scott: drums; Valtinho Anastacio: congas, percussion.

Reviews:

Down Beat (10/95, pp.47-48) - 3.5 Stars - Good/Very Good - "...Brecker ardently keeps pace with the pianist. It's one of the tenor player's most zealous outings in a while....The message is one of fierce pride in the collective virtuosity at play....The pianist's gleeful boogie--like most of INFINITY'S components--has a way of being daring and discrete."

JazzTimes (4/96, p.74) - "...a solid, very respectable account of the current Tyner, his well-oiled trio,...and supercharged tenor saxophonist Mike Brecker..."

McCoy Tyner with Stanley Clarke and Al Foster

Personnel: McCoy Tyner (piano); Stanley Clarke (acoustic & electric basses); Al Foster (drums).

Recorded at Clinton Recording Studio "B", New York, New York on April 27 & 28, 1999.

Q (6/00, pp.116-7) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...This partnership...is just what Tyner deserves. And he hasn't sounded so good in years; tackling standards and original tunes with a rhythm section unafraid to ask difficult questions."

Dave Burrell  on piano   "High One High Two"

Non melodic, occasionally atonal free jazz.  Not really my cup of tea, but just something different for the morning's listening.

For fans of jazz trio live recordings particularly those with atypical emphasis on bass, digital downloads of Christian McBride Trio “Live at the Village Vanguard” are now available in a variety of formats at downloadsnow.net – and with reduced pricing through November 23rd. Performance and sound quality are top notch. I picked up the dsf download of another McBride release (“Out Here”) not long ago and have really enjoyed it. I expect the Vanguard set will grow on me every bit as much. Full length previews of all tracks can be enjoyed at the link below.
