Try this for funky jazz guitar.... "Boogaloo" Joe Jones.....
Both of Ted's selections are superb. You also can't go wrong with Wes Montgomery.
From 1993....Mick Goodrick - "Biorhythms"From 1980....Laurindo Almeida & Charlie Byrd - "Brazilian Soul"From 2006...(who? )Wolfgang Muthspiel - "Friendly Travelers"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwKgAQzATCU
Of course it's going to depend on personal preference with regards to the style of jazz guitar you prefer, but have been listening to these guys since the 70's. They all have varying offerings from more classic jazz to rock-jazz fusion. And Wes Montgomery is a given, and Pat Metheny is a winner as well, though I prefer his earlier work. If you throw in Bass guitar, check out Eberhard Weber (another ECM artist).
Fireworks!
...Joe is a smokin' player and in a similar vein you could check out Billy Butler...Cheersblutto
