'Wild Things' was on TV the other day, I started watching it because of the catchy opening theme.  I couldn't endure the movie so I just ordered the soundtrack...

Agree w/ Delta Wave on "Magnolia" and "Last Temptation". Powerful stuff on there on each.

I really liked the theme for "The Year of Living Dangerously" (Maurice Jarre, I think)

Gotta love the music from "The Matrix", especially the outro... 'Wake Up' by RAtM.

I've never been all that thrilled with movie soundtracks in general, and I can't help but feel I'm cheating when I say that ones that stand out for me are:

O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Blues Brothers
'Round Midnight
Bird

and of course
Spinal Tap

I'm tempted to include
The Wall
Stop Making Sense

but that really would be cheating.

There are times during The Lord of the Rings trilogy where I notice the music in a positive way, so I suppose that's a job well done.

I'm also a big Mark Knopfler fan, and a bunch of his soundtracks have some nice stuff (e.g. Local Hero, Wag The Dog and The Princess Bride).  But listening to the whole of any of these soundtracks starts to drag pretty quickly.

One I remember vaguely that was interesting was from Three Colors: Blue.  Zbigniew Preisner did the score for all of the Three Color movies, but this one was particularly interesting as the film focused on a woman trying to produce a masterpiece of music allegedly written by her dead husband - and they actually have to play at least snatches of something that could be construed as a musical masterpiece during the film.  I remember enjoying the music.

A good friend recently gave me the soundtrack to "Dear John" and it's got a number of really good songs on it.   :thumb:

I love soundtracks and have a bunch.

As commercial releases, they tend to be recorded to a higher standard than run-of-the-mill music albums or CD's are.

It could be that the more recent ones are recorded at 24/192 for DVD/video....and downmixed to 16/44.1 for CD.  But, even the vinyl versions of most sound tracks sound better than commercial counterparts....and that goes back to before they recorded them digitally.

I love Gladiator, Star Wars, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Red Violin, Good Morning Vietnam and so many others - too long to list!

AC must be free of the Boomers.  I haven't seen anyone mention The Big Chill or Forrest Gump soundtracks.

"Waking Ned Devine."  Charming (and funny) little Irish story, and the sound track is pretty good.
