Ferrite cores

Yup - I had a couple around from experiments with audio/rca cables. They stripped some measure of artifacts from the line, but left the music
less natural sounding. So, that cheap experiment went back in the audiophool toolbin for a couple years.
I haven't been that blown over by my new (Best Buy) 46" Insignia TV LCD/LED picture...even on HD channels from Comcast. Also, there is
notable lag between video and audio when folks are talking...and I read that this goes away by changing out HDMI cable between box and TV.
I use the (free) HDMI cable that came with the box.
I was thinking of 'upgrading' the cable in hopes of getting a better picture and improving that video/audio lag...when I looked over at monoprice.com for cables. I noticed
all their 28awg cables came with built in ferrite cores...and they sell them as accessories on the 24 and 22awg cables, too.
Well, out came the ferrite cores from the failed audio experiments of a few years ago and VIOLA! - noticably better picture was the result (confirmed by my wife - who isn't unwittingly fooled by supposed tweeks as easily as I am

)
The audio/video lag is still there, however, it's fairly dramatically reduced to barely problematic now. I'm not much of a videophile, so I may not even get a new cable to see if this could be banished
entirely.....I'm pretty happy to put long lingering projects to better use with my video

I cannot comment on audio quality, as mentioned I did not like for sound what these ferrite cores did for my audio-only system a few years ago - the audio portion of my video system is not sufficient resolution to hear anything unnatural about them. So, they'll be staying in the video system for perpetuity now
