The light for my power button on my 27 year old Denon tt just went out, is that reason enough to drop $2500 on a new Denon tt?

Because of the fact that turntables last so long you'd be much better buying used, IMO.

I was looking for a TT about a year and a half ago, and I also had $2500. I managed to score a Sota Star Sapphire vacuum table with an SME V arm. I would've paid that much for the arm alone. Another $700 to have Sota upgrade and rebuild the platter/bearing assembly brought the rig to perfect operational status. No regrets!  :)

+1 on that.  There are also tons of high quality DD tables out there, Yamaha, Denon, JVC that can be had for a song and you could buy a great cartridge with the extra  $$$.  I like belt drives and for $2500 +/- $250 you could get a VPI Classic including the JMW 9 arm.  I like Denon tables for the mid-fi range, but donno bout a $2500 Denon being worth the money.  Not sayin' it isn't worth it, just sayin'.

That TT is a bad joke. Denon apparently dismantled their manufacturing  capabilities. It's made in China and nowhere near the quality of past tables. Matter of fact, it's identical to the top of the line, (DP-500 I think) that apparently is discontinued. The new one is black instead of brown. The cart is a modified DL-103.  $2500

$2500 for a table?  Not a Denon.  Go for a Scout II with a JMW9 and pocket the difference.

Yup, yup and yup.  Denon is just reaching for outsized profits on this one.

The VPI Classis USD$2750 now + cartridge.  A really good deck this is (and I'm a fan of direct drive tables, in general)

As well, the new Well Tempered Simplex is either here or coming shortly...for about USD$2100 (another table with a 10.5" arm like the VPI Classic).  This is a sensational design that bears watching further for.

If you'd entertain the thought of owning belt drives, there's Origin Live's and even a Townshend Rock 7 in this price range.

Not much available in (new) direct drive's today....but a Technics SL-1200, even with a few add-on upgrades, would leave you lots of dosh for records and other things in your life...and a LOT less than that overpriced Denon.
