I am interested in making it the trip. About a 2 hour drive for me! Weekends are the best for me. Is the ladies invited, too?

Hi Everybody,

So let's keep this active. Here's some possible weekend dates. Let me know what you think:

Friday, Sep 24
Saturday, Sep 25
Sunday, Sep 26

Friday, Nov 12
Saturday, Nov 13
Sunday, Nov 14

Saturday, Nov 20
Sunday, Nov 21

Ideas so far include: Gathering in the afternoon until the music stops; Food and BBQ on the deck; Tunes (Digital & Vinyl), a selection of Gear & Proper Male Oriented Argumentation. I don't have a Lowenbrau banner, but I do have a fake Bengali Flag and some old boxer shorts that we can host on a stick. As I get some rsvps. we'll nail down the rest of the details. Southern Illinois is beautiful from the end of September - Thanksgiving. What happens in Southern Illinois stays in Southern Illinois... just maybe not at my house!

Hiya Din,

I'll be the first to post. Either of the Saturdays or Sundays in November work for me....but that is just me.

If it happens to fall on one of these days, I'd be happy to drive if anybody wants to carpool.

I'm a bit hit and miss on Saturdays. Hopefully it falls on one that I can get off. If not, I'm sure there will be other times.

Saturday, Nov 20
Sunday, Nov 21

Okay GASers...  :thumb:

Roll call time for the Shawnee get together in Southern Illinois. Let's narrow it to either:

Saturday, November 20  - OR -
Sunday, November 21

Please find list below of some of the equipment I have available to offer for our listening experience. I dunno :dunno: maybe this will be an enticement (or not) for y'all to come down. When we know who's coming, we can decide on what other gear people have to offer, and if it's appropriate or practical. I want to be careful about what we change in/out.

The Monobloc Amps are fixed... don't want to be changing amps. I believe that my amps will be more than sufficient. I also do not want to be changing out cartridges. As far as sources, preamps (inc. phono amp), speakers, tubes, etc. go, I am relatively open... to a large degree. When I have a better idea of how many people are coming, I'll be happy to generously arrange for food, etc. Directions and other specifics will follow by personal emails, so please let me know how to get a hold of you! Please bring your favorite music CD & Vinyl.

Best regards,

Din Dayemi

Random...My in-laws live in Harrisburg, and we'll be making a trip there for Thanksgiving (unless, by the grace of God a freak snowstorm hits the Dallas metroplex and we're unable to make the glorious 11 1/2 hour trek). If this gets officially scheduled for the 21st, and I have the good fortune of being back and kicking-off a joy-filled week with the in-laws, I'm in. Keep me in the loop. I'll be the one dancin' a jig as I'll be free for the day.

I'm pretty sure that date works for me.

As for the systems, I'm not sure I'd change a thing  :thumb:

Just a quick note that Nov. 19, 20, and 21 is first shotgun deer hunting season in Illinois, so the deer will be running so drive safely.  I may be in the area to give a guest lecture at SIUC the week before.  If so I will stay and attend the listening session.  I was a longtime resident of Makanda and Murphysboro and look forward to getting back down there every chance I get.  It's a great place in the Fall.

Greetings Everybody

I'm getting enough responses here on AC, and with a few locals, that I'm going to go ahead and set the date: SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 21. So... mark your calendars.

At this point, for those of you who are coming, I would like to send out private emails with the particulars, directions and stuff. :rules: Please send me an email or PM so that I get your email address and name. For anybody else who would like to join us, please do the same... just shoot me an email through AC or a PM with your name and email address, and I will write back.

We all in the Shawnee Forest be looking forward to this. It promises to be a good time

Best regards,

Din

Hi bside...
are there any hifi shops left in southern Illinois? I remember in the early 80's there was a fairly nice shop, can't quite remember what they sold, it being those college years.
Your event sounds fun, wish I could make it. I spent a lot of time in the Shawnee way back when...maybe another time.  Oddly enough, when I looked at photos of your sytem, your place looked familiar...lol.
Take care.

Hey Threadkiller: If there were still any hi-fi shops left here, or even any hi-fi down here, I wouldn't have to throw a party just to get all these fine dudes from St. Louis to come down here! We are audio lonely here in the Shawnee. Anyway, all cool timber frame houses in the forest look the same if you are "remembering" them from "back in the day" if you know what I mean. Catch ya next time. :eyebrows:

You're probably talking about Audio Musicale in Belleville.  Quite a good shop.  They carried some of the best brands available in those days: FMC, Audio Research, Magnepan, Acoustat, Denon, Bozak, Hafler, Perrault, AR and others.  Next door to their shop was a great record store with a pair of Bozak Concert Grands tri-amped with Audio Research amps to audition records and enjoy the music!

Bit IIRC, Randy and Dixon (partner owners) ultimately couldn't make a decent living.  The record store closed.

Hi B,
I loved Audio Musicale....Randy was such a nice guy. I used to go in there often, I guess I only remember them from their shopping center location, with the fish store next to them. I don't remember a record store. I believe they were in a house at first.
The store was big on planars....maggies, acoustats, early martin logans.  Loved the Acoustat Threes.   Oh well...even Edwardsville had a hifi shop back then, Meyer TV and Audio.

HiFi stores in Southern Illinois (ha-ha), it was a happy day when Bestbuy opened its doors in Carbondale, prior to that we had to drive to Paducah or Fairview Heights.  I am not saying BestBuy is HiFi, but at least you can get some bare necessities if you are in a pinch.  Then there was Pick’s electronics that was always good for resistors, capacitors, etc…, but that place is long gone.  I am assuming that Radio Shack is still in the Murdale Plaza.  It took series effort keeping my ST-70 running while living down there.  I was happy that Carbondale always had a decent live music scene.
