You don't mention the size of the room, sonic preferences, frequency range etc. so tough for me to make a recommendation. For what it's worth I can offer my preferences and what I ended up choosing as my main speakers.1. Neutral, high resolution full range sound in a medium to medium-large room2. Floor standing, not to large, easy to place, kid friendly, don't visually overpower the living room where I listen and can be rolled out of the way when not in use3. Need to enjoy the sound stage from everywhere in the room, no being stuck to a listening chairI needed to sell my Harbeth S HL5's last year because my son was getting a little too rambunctious. The speakers I replaced them with were a mint vintage pair of Ohm Walsh 4's which I later upgraded to the latest Ohm drivers. They are simply marvelous speakers, and not just for the price. The only thing I miss about the Harbeth's is they didn't require the power the Ohm's do.For a $1500 budget you'd have to go with one of their smaller models; say a clean pair of Ohm Walsh 2's which you can regularly find on Craigslist for about $250 and then $1000 for the upgrade. I'm told the sound signature is similar from the smallest to largest drivers they offer. They have a 60 day trial period for the upgraded driver or 120 days if you buy a new, complete speakers. They fly totally under the radar because they don't advertise. The real value is they continue to provide an upgrade path for every speaker they've ever made. American made as well, for over 30 years.
BTW: I was under the impression "under $1,500" would be considered a cheap and cheerful thing. But I suppose the question is too broad and general...
Maybe the Circle's Guidelines will clarify the Circle's thread posting intentions for ya. Cheers,Robin
