Here' my little secret...
I use single driver speakers and a Behringer DEQ2496 to replace, in the digital realm, the baffle step/zobel circuit while flattening out the frequency response, and gaining room correction. BTW I have a dedicated listening room with room proportions and speaker/listening position ala Cardas with six GIK 244 absorption panels. My speakers use transmission line loading and without whizzer cones, "beam" the highs pretty much like some designers strive for.
So the need for room correction is minimal. The designer of my speaker, Bob Brines, recommend DEQ in place of the circuits he provides (as a temporary stop gap solution). It's amazing how much clearer (less mud) the sound is when one or more frequencies are overpowering others.
