A good song at the right moment under the right circumstances....In the summer of 1970 Julie and I were still on our honeymoon. We went to a movie in Westwood CA then wandered around town. Naturally, we ended up in a record store. They were playing "Sweet Baby James". We had never heard of James Taylor but we bought the record and the song instantly became our song. I can hear the music, picture the album and relive the moment anytime I want to feel young and romantic again. There were lots of great songs before and have been since, many of them better than this one, but none of them conjure up our early happiness like that one. Next year, when we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we'll lift a glass to J.T.
Nice post, CSI. I can't remember my time without romantic nostalgia being part of it. Black music was the youth music of when and where I grew up, the 50's in North Dallas, Texas, amen. In The Still of the Night by The Five Satins, or Sincerely by The Moonglows. Freddie King was a god. Of course, not all white kids were into R&B, but the anti-establishment ones were tho we didn't know it at the time. Used to go to R&B revues when they came to town. The only white band I remember hearing at one was Bill Haley. Pat Boone was from north of there. You should have heard his covers of Little Richard tunes. I mean what a joke.
+1 with BobM on the bubblegum.I think I moved onto 'real' music, ie Rock, with Steely Dan - "Reelin' In The Years"Song still gives me a chill.
If you're talking my "real youth" then Bubblegum music was what was in at the time. Songs like "Red Rubber Ball" (I think this was Paul Simon under a pseudonym) or "123 Red Light"?Anyone remember this one (I know bunnyma357 does):Little Willie-Willie won'tgo homeBut you can't chase Willie causeWillie won't goKeep tellin' everybody butOh noLittle Willie-Willie won'tgo home
I think it's "Reflections of my Life"? Yes, I remember these. Just out of Vietnam and out of the service. My youth had vanished at that point however. Great songs from that era though. However, if I remember correctly Armed Forces Radio played a lot of Buck Owens.....I nearly shot myself!
"Never My Love", "Along Came Mary" and many other wonderful songs by The Association. My first (of many) live concerts. Fantastic harmonies.Incense and Peppermints (Strawberry Alarm Clock?)+1 to the Cyrkle! +1 to "White Bird"+1 to "In My Room"
You are correct my bad...............BillGood morning Vietnam did you meet Robin Williams ??
