The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke IMHO... Who cares who's in it? I mean, Madonna? Michael Jackson, who admittedly had talent, but was NOT a rock n' roll performer? Abba? Run DMC, a RAP group???!?!? I agree with Howard Stern's description of the RRHOF as "the Hard Rock Cafe without the burgers." Just my 2 cents.

Agreed Zybar. Rush is amazing :thumb:

Having older siblings, I grew up on them and put them right up there with all the super rock bands of the 70s. This is a a legendary POWER trio that IMO are ICONS of the rock world.

Rock & roll hall of fame means very lil to me as a fan, now that I know Madonna is in there, it now means even less (then lil).

Rush is on tour now, will be at Jones Beach,NY next week. And as all you Rush fans know they will be playing there best selling album "Moving Pictures" in its entirety" I CAN'T WAIT!

LMFAO!!  you are so right!    I think it is that bullshit political correctness crap that is at the forefront of putting these NON Rock musicians in the Rock-n-Roll hall of fame. If Led Zeppelin were a modern group, I bet they wouldn't put them in either.

Seen Rush three times in the 70's and I wore out the Live " All the worlds A stage" album.  Rush rocks just listen to Live in Rio today.  :eyebrows:

I first saw Rush at the Saskatoon Arena. They were the back-up band for Nazareth and had just released their first album. Can't remember if Peart was the drummer. Just remember that they kicked ass.

My teenage nephews from Lima, Peru, today, when asked, will tell you that Neil Peart is the best rock drummer in the world.....so....I guess you could say that Rush has a true worldwide following.

But the Rock and Roll Hall of fame is a joke. Nothing at all, really. Kind of like a Grammy Award. Means nothing.

OK...I have zero RUSH..whats the first one I should buy?? :thumb:

I would suggest (in order) Exit... Stage Left; Moving Pictures; 2112. I actually have _more_ respect for the band since they aren't in the RnRHoF.

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Exit, Stage Left is EPIC!!!  With peart going ballistic on YYZ and lifeson following with that trippy eastern riff, the dream-like Red Barchetta....The Trees, Xanadu... there are very few live shows that compare imo.
Right up there close to "The Wall" imo

I only wish the sound engineering/recording process would have been higher quality much like Little Feats "Waiting for Columbus"

There are a number of tracks on Exit, where I think the performance is better than on the original studio release. Besides, it's the only way to get Broon's Bane > The Trees.

I never paid any attention to who got voted into the R&RHOF.  Don't know who's in and don't particularly care.

Rush is a great band.  My favorite albums are...

2112
A Farewell to Kings
Hemispheres
Moving Pictures
Permanent Waves
Signals

I discovered Rush in 1979, been with them ever since. They far exceed the talent of many of the RNRHOF inductees.

While I can respect their muscianship, I don't get Rush, though I realize many do. Geddy Lee's vocals just torment my ears so it's hard for me to give them any airtime in my house or my car thus I'll likely never feel any different. Their absence from the Hall of Fame though is harder to explain but as Hattiman noted above, even Deep Purple are not in while Madonna is, so there's clearly something to that line about the Hall being like the Cafe without the burgers.

I have to agree with you on that. Lee's voice alone ends any possibility of me liking the band. Next is the lyrics. Not so much that the lyrics aren't thoughtful and actually contain interesting content, but more that they are almost absurd in a way "Concert hall. And echoes with the sound of salesmen. OF SALESMEN!!!!!!!!" ugh i just don't get the appeal. Now the drummer is pretty much a god, and the musicianship is phenomenal without any reservation I say that. Sigh... I feel the same way about dave matthews band. Great musicians phenomenal music, hate his voice hate 95% of their songs. Yet I own 2 of their albums. How the F did that happen? What were we talking about again?
Sorry

Hey Pez, if you don't get the meaning of that song there is a pretty good discussion about it here...

I alsways thought it was pretty clear myself...

Well said!   :thumb:

I got hooked as a 11 year old back in 1982 when "Signals" came out.  Since that point, I have seen pretty much every tour and have all their albums.

Rush is awesome!  :thumb:

Last year I went to Princeton Record Exchange for my first time and they had a few Rush albums on vinyl that I picked up.

The best of the lot was Moving Pictures, which was only $2.50, and has pretty sweet sonics, as well as being my favorite Rush album so far.

Never got to see them in concert because I didn't get "Rushified" until only about five years ago. I had just gotten out of college, and was working at my first job, and someone had Tom Sawyer playing, and it was sweetness.

F the RRHOF; littered with sellout commercialism and popular opinionites anyway. Rush has made it where they have playing the music they wanted to play; you gotta respect that anymore with the sh*t that is floating around today.

I'm in the "don't get them crowd." I think they were a little late for me so I never bought any of their albums.
Here's my take on them. The musicianship seems excellent. The song content and structure is good from what I've heard but I haven't heard all that much. Now the vocals. When I hear a Rush song I can't help but think of a band getting together and auditioning lead vocalists, in comes Geddy Lee. Seriously, what would be the reaction?
As for the RRHOF, who cares?
