My first real system was an Akai receiver and these speakers that had a huge 15 inch woofer and a piezo tweeter along with a turntable (I even forget what it was).  Probably cost around $800 well over 30 years ago.  Don't even want to think what the current system costs (I didn't get all of it at once) but the main system is Thiel 3.7s, MCS1 center, Power Point rears and I even have a SCS2 I use for a rear center at times.  Then there's 4 Rel subs, 2 Storm IIIs, Q150 (for the center) and a Strata III for the rears.  Then there is electronics, including 14BSST, 6BSST, modded Oppo BDP-83, SP 1.7, BDA-1, Torum RM20 and lots of other things like a modded Sansui TU717 tuner, etc.  So I'd guess that is a bit more than $800 :o

My first system didn't cost me much as it was heavily subsidized (Magnepan MMGs, M&K MX-90, Philips 963sa, Jolida 1501RC).  I guess retail was probably around $2500 -  Around 2001/2

Not sure what the actual total outlay for my current system has been as I've purchased/upgraded incrementally, but I think my retail is around $25,000
