Hi,

Has anyone read the report on HDBaseT networking, link below:

James, I am afraid to ask your position on this matter and will this be considered in the SP3?

Just when all the work was done on HDMI 1.4a, now we more options going forward...

Ciao,
Luigi

HDMI is more alive in that picture then anywhere else.. How is HDMI dead?  HDbaseT will probably just reduce the number of blu-ray and DVRs you have in the house and will make your computer more useful as you can network everything including your poodle.   Also seems like HDbaseT doesn't go over ethernet but just uses the cat5/6 wiring.   I guess if you move to computers to a wireless network you can takeover the existing wiring in your house?

Since the bandwidth of the HDbaseT matches that of the HDMI cable, I wonder if they have a new serial protocol that doesn't lose 20-50% bandwidth that Ethernet experiences...?   Guessing HDbaseT might be better called nearHDbaseT.   This seems more like a "whole-house-video" solution then high-end HD video.

It's not dead, it's the walking dead. Keeps moving due to incredible efforts made by the "entertainment" industry to push it down our throats with their ever "improving" DRM schemes.

Here true story. I wanted a solid "business" type of notebook (no intention to play games on it) so I've recently ordered a Thinkpad T510. I was curious if I could somehow use it too for playing music through a BDA-1. Bad luck. It outputs digital audio only through its "DisplayPort" connector. Which the BDA doesn't have one. Of course, there are some Displayport-to-HDMI adapters, however the BDA-1 doesn't have HDMI either. Good old Napalm investigates further and finds this:

http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/office/monitors/premium/LS25EMNKUY/ZA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail

So in order to do something as simple as play a CD through a BDA-1, I need to connect the notebook -> DisplayPort to HDMI converter -> monitor HDMI input -> monitor toslink out -> BDA-1.

They complicated all these digital connections and standards and DRM schemes to the point that they are barely usable if at all. You know what. Either "the industry" comes out with something usable or I'm not buying any more of this.  :finger:

I am tired of this endless "entertainment" in scouring for the right combination of adapters and connectors to make things work.

Digital shmidgital.

What about USB? (Just curious...)

You cant use a notebook with the bdp1. Its considered a second host and won't accept it through usb.

whoops edit. i just noticed bda not bdp

Should work however the BDA-1 limits severely the quality via USB.

I wonder where it will sit after USB 3.0 becomes mainstream.

I hope James has some plans for a BDA-2 with USB 3.0 and HDMI. The BDA-1 is already obsolete by today's standards in digital connections.

Werd can you send me that BDP prototype for a week so I could test it.

Thanks,

Why are you bagging out on the usb?, its really nice and its even nicer when fed hirez files. Its not a bad input at all.  I don't get the bdp proto thing?

Every review I've read mentioned that the USB input behaved less well than the others.

We all know u have a BDP prototype. 'Fess it up. We want to see it too.

James you have to fix this. If he actually doesn't have a prototype, please kindly send him one.
