Well, the topic says it all. Fedex has them on the truck out for delivery. I figured I'd post now cause these are coming AND I have to build a darn Staples desk today as well, so time is short.
I had wanting a pair of Songtower RTs for a couple years now. Followed Nuance's thread on AVS, reading stuff here, etc. Then early this year finally was able to build a house (1st house, 1st build), which we got the keys to only a week or so ago (still moving in --- hence the desk build).
At any rate, in the process, I was able to save 2-3K on my planned closing costs cause of a small rate drop in late April. I had been teetering between the RTs, the HT1-TLs, and the HT2-TLs. (Ask Jim how many times I emailed him with various questions). That was also after the Audioholics review came out about the 2's, and had me frothing at the mouth.
So with the savings, on April 29 I decided to place an order for the HT2-TLs in Fireburst over Curly Cherry. I went back and forth on the veneer and finally settled on the CC due to the pics on the forum of "Dale's".
After a 3 weeks or so, I emailed Jim and everything was going fine, he should be done in a couple of weeks. Wow, I planned to have them done around the same time as my house, but it seemed like the speakers would be done early. So 2 more weeks go by and I email for another status update and I open a long email starting with "...a problem with my speakers..." Ugh!
It turns out that they ran out of LCY tweeters, and it would be at least 45 days until the next shipment. Jim listed 3 possible options: Wait for new LCY's, a different tweeter (not sure which), or the RAAL (which involves a new x-over build and a new hole in the cabinets). Jim said they were going with option 3 at no cost to me as the RAAL's more than a $200 or so increase over the LCY's.
And last night, after Jim drove them down to FedEx himself so I could have them this weekend (more on that below), he sent this
........"I measured your speakers before we packed them. They have about the flattest frequency response from the midrange on up that I have ever seen. So the voicing is very accurate. But just in case, we soldered the last voicing resistor to the tweeter rather than in the crossover itself. That way, we can adjust the tweeter level if desired.
In the next day or so, we will be building another pair. In this pair, I will have time to experiment with a resistor change which will lift the tweeter just above flat. Obviously a flat response is an accurate response. But if I think there is a possibility you might prefer an elevated tweeter level, I can send you some resistors to substitute for the one attached to the tweeter. I doubt this will be the case, but until I hear it myself, I won't know. (I didn't have time to try it out on your speakers since we wanted to get them shipped today for you.)
Let me know what you think once you have a chance to listen."
I would like to finish by thanking Jim for everything. He was always quick to reply to my many emails, and answer the phone. Thanks for the free RAAL upgrade as well. And thanks for driving my speakers to the FedEx terminal, to ensure that I would be able to have them before this weekend and enyjoy them while still on vacation. I will try to post impressions and photos at some point (maybe pics today). But I still very busy with the move in, but I will set aside several hours tonight to enjoy these.
Thanks again and congratulations on the 2 new great reviews for your products Jim. My TAS hasn't arrived yet but I'm sure its lost in the USPS system with the whole forwarding mail thing.
PS, currently have Onix REF1s (used). Have had DefTech 7006s, and Mythos ST's. Of the 3 the Mythos ST were easily the best. I only had them for a short time and expect these to blow them out of the water. For now, my components are an Emotiva USP-1 driving two UPA-1s, using the SB3, Oppo BDP-83 as sources. This is in my CURRENT 2-channel setup. Room is big but open to the Kitchen (where I took 2nd pic). I bought some material from ATS to build some panels, and I hope to get to it once I get some other stuff done.
Both the speakers and sub you see will go to the basement as soon as FedEx arrives!
