« on: 25 May 2010, 11:52 pm »
Hello!

What do you connect your electronics to? Directly to the wall outlet,  power strip, power conditioner or surge suppressor?

I have a songtower home theater system and need 10 outlets. Looking for a reasonable way to get power to the equipment and provide some protection. Your imput is appreciated!

Using a Belkin PF31 here.  Has the ability to have 11 items plugged into it.  Nothing super fancy, but it appears to get the job done and it was reasonably priced at less than $100 used on Ebay.

In HT I use dual Panamax M5100PM's with each one plugged into its own dedicated 20amp circuit.  In my 2 channel, I use a Panamax M8-AV Pro.

I've used the Belkin PF31 that Kinger uses.  Currently, I have a Monster power strip for all my video based components and a PS Audio Quintet for just my audio gear.  It has 10 outlets with 5 isolated zones (I only use 5 of them for audio).

I'm not much of a video guy but at least want decent protection from damage.  My goal has been to isolate my audio gear with a quality power center.  If looking for something strip style, the Quintet is very nice.

I have a whole house surge protector, but I also run my components through an Axxium double-conversion ups. It converts AC to DC and then back to AC.

I use SurgeX products.  No MOVs here!  They also are the OEM supplier for brickwell and ZeroSurge.

at my rack, since i "needed" a 20 amp power strip, and 20 amp power strips are few and far between...  these can be found on sale pretty often...

I use a Panamax 5400PM. I also have a question though. How can I ensure I have all my equipment hooked up to a dedicated 20 a circuit? Do I have to call an electrician for that? How can I upgrade that dedicated circuit if I so choose?

Go to your breaker box and take a look at the marking on the breaker.  It will say 15, 20....It probably isn't a 20A circuit.

Do have to?  No.  Unless you understand electric and working in a breaker panel, you should have a licensed electrician do it.  Also, you need to know your local codes.

Call the electrician and he can pull 10ga wire for you and you'll have yourself a dedicated 20A circuit.

Wiki is your friend but MOV's aren't.   :)

true dat...  for what my electrician charged me to run two, it wasn't worth even thinking about doing it myself...

I use an APC C10 12 Outlet 15 Amp Power Filter that I picked up from Vann's on sale for about $50 late last year when I bought a TV from them.  Mine is silver and I think they were closing out that color.  However, my two Rythmik subs I recently purchased don't reach the Power Filter so I still need to do something about that.
