Now that my Kefs are a little(but not fully) broken in yet ............here is my quick personal review thus far on the Kef Reference 207-2`s.I have been enjoying them deeply everyday........They are by far the best speaker i have ever owned.First of all.....the "Soundstage"....amazing....they have a HUGE Soundstage....much more so then my previous KEF XQ 40's...............where the XQ 40's lacked in the very fine details of a recording....the 207/2s grapple every subtle nuance the recording has to offer....they are a very revealing speaker....the old cliche of "I am hearing things in the recording i have never heard before......well its actually TRUE with the KEF Reference 207/2's.
They are 91DB@8 Ohms(efficent),but they do crave at least 250 Watts of high current.......if one has more....then thats even better(My Bryston 4BSST2 has 330 Watts)......i may experment with Bi-Amping another 4BSST2 and see what transpires.
Now the Midrange..........very,very open and transparent........i was expecting the midrange to be very ``warm`,but this is not the case in as much as i was expecting.
On Diana Kralls album ``The Girl in the Other Room`` the song Departure Bay has a melody that thru the 207``2s puts her dead center in my listening room......i can hear her breathing so open-clear....inhale-exhale....its so involving.I adore the midrange
on these Reference speakers.
The Bass is acurate.......very fast(not thick).....dynamic and you never got the feeling that the recording is being to closely milked on the 207-2s.
These speakers certainly benifit from Bi-Wiring and then use jumpers for the upper Treble connection or Tri-wire if you wish.........But remember they are NOT even broken in yet and i have also ordered Acoustic Zen Absolute Shotgun speaker wire for them..........the bass control will be even more amazing.
With a speaker of this level......you really have to support the components downstream(high end in every area) and indeed you will pull the best out of the Reference Kefs....the speakers demand it.
In closing i will easily say........as good as the KEF XQ series that i owned was.....the KEF Reference 207-2s take the enjoyment of music to another much higher Dimension then i have ever experienced.
I LOVE THESE SPEAKERS!
