Joe's HT2-TL's in burled walnut
« on: 14 May 2010, 08:34 pm »
One of our associates, Ammar, wanted to build a pair of HT2-TL's for his brother Joe.  Joe came to the shop, looked through various veneers and selected burled walnut with no sapwood.

Here is a picture...

And a close-up...

Ammar delivered them this afternoon.  Hopefully, Joe will have a great week-end.

Happy listening Joe!

Another beautiful pair.  The mirrored veneer pieces on the sides are stunning.
And looking at these, I'm wondering if I should have gone without the baffle.  Not having the baffle on there really shows off the woodwork.  Jim, is there anything lost by going baffleless?

  That's all I have to say other than I am sure Joe is in for a great weekend of music.

In this case, the baffle extends to the bottom of the cabinet.  So there is no diffference in performance.  There is, however, a difference in cost as hardwood trim must be added to the edges of the cabinet that are rounded over.  This means the edges have to be routed, the trim wood needs to be purchased, milled and sawed to make strips of the right size.  They then must be cut and glued into place.  Finally, they need to be sanded level with the veneered faces.  This adds about $300 or more to the cost of a pair of speakers.

But it that is what is wanted, we have no problem doing it.

where can i get a brother like ammar?

those are VERY nice...  on the ones that are veneered with burl, the wood trim really "works" well...  and the matching plinths are the finishing touch...

one step closer to the front of the line...   :D

Those are amazing!  Ammar gets the brother of the year award for sure. :)

You're one lucky man, Joe.  Enjoy!

Jim,
You're a total genius! I was wondering the other day, do you think it is possible to re-veneer my B&W 801 FS bass cabinets? If so, that would give  me a nice excuse for a road trip to Oakland, MI. :hyper:
