BDA-1 does not power on
« on: 25 Apr 2010, 02:55 pm »
Hello,

Since this morning, my BDA-1 seems to be dead  :(   No led is illuminated. What I have to do? Change the internal fuse?

Thank you!

Didier

Hi James,

The serial number is BDA1-000451. I bought it in Belgium (dealer: New Music).

Mine freezes sometimes and I have to cycle the 120v input power off and on, then it's fine again for another few weeks or months.  Requires a s/w update apparently but I haven't got around to it yet.

Mine did too until I got a software update.

If it is not responding at all, it may need to go back to bryston for the firmware update.

I haven't had any problems at all with mine since the update.

Hi James,

Any news concerning the problem I have with my BDA-1? Can I check by myself if the fuse is blown and replace it without losing the guarantee? (I have Torx drivers and it's quite easy...) Is it a standard FAST 125ma fuse (my BDA-1 is a 240v) 5X20MM?

Thank you!

Didier

Hi satbox,

Talked to engineering and try this -

We've had some 240V units blowing fuses when plugging in to AC.
We have increased the fuse to T160mA and no problems since.

Thank you.

- Can you confirm that I can change the fuse without losing the guarantee?
- Is it a 5X20MM T160mA fuse?

I will check on the fuse size for you - no problem with the warranty.

Hello Satbox!

Just because I am curious, did you use a "standard" fuse? I would really like to know whether the use of so called high-end fuses makes any difference in Bryston equipment. Could you try and find a "Furutech" fuse like this in Belgium? They are not cheap, but might well be worth the investment.

Hi,
I used a standard fuse. I know these "high-end" fuses but not really convinced...

If I owned a BDA (which, incidentally, is on the wishlist) I'd open my wallet to see if a 2000 + euro device runs better on a 38 euro fuse instead of a 0.05 euro one... An experiment worth the money.

Hier is wat leesmateriaal (in dutch, not worth the click if you don't speak/read Dutch)
