HT-2 TL vs. Song Towers ... based on room size
« on: 26 Mar 2010, 07:51 am »
I'm currently running a pair of Usher X-929s and while they have PLENTY of bass the mids are veiled.
From what I'm reading it sounds like either the Song Towers OR HT-2 TLs would provide a more defined midrange that I am looking for in my next speaker.

A) I currently run a Parasound A23 but am in the process of upgrading to a Pass X150.5.
B) My listening room measures ~18x20 with 9' ceiling and I have plenty of GIK panels, pillars, etc... to treat as needed.
C) Ideally, I want to place the rear of the speakers no more than 24" off the front wall.
D) I'm not into organ music but I do enjoy experiencing lower registers on the piano and the occasional timpani.
E) I'm pretty much deaf to anything over 12k so high freq extention doesn't concern me.

Given the above, would the Song Towers be less "finicky" with regards to placement/performance vs. HT-2 TLs?

Cost is not an issue

I would suspect that the SongTowers and HT2-TLs "place" similarly as they are very similar designs.

If cost is really no issue, I'd say the HT2-TLs are a no-brainer, but why not consider HT3s?

I used to run a sub with my HT2-TLs for music.  I now do not and I don't really miss using a sub at all because the HT2-TLs have more bass output than most believe.  My room is 18'x25' with 9' high walls and a 15' high cathedral ceiling plus my 7'x10' foyer area.  My HT2-TLs shake the floor and I could fool almost anyone into thinking my sub was playing.

You have a nice sized room and budget is not a concern, the Ht-2TL will be fine 2 feet from the back wall. While the SongTowers are very fine speakers and a real bargain, so are the HT2's at their level. Their midrange is superior to the Songs along with more bass extension.

Thanks to all for the feedback....

The reason I asked was from the Audioholics review where room size was mentioned as a possible issue with the HT2-TLs.

Man I have my HT2s in a 12x14 room forget audioholics   :icon_twisted:.  They work well in there of course I'd like to have a nice big room but I take what I can get.

The reviewer's room was only 12 X 14.

"I have a smallish room (about 12 by 14 feet) that is open on two sides to most of the rest of the house."

I suspect that is why they sound stage wasn't as large as expected in that review.  You cannot really get a huge sound stage in a "small" room.  :)
