For use with my Sony MDR SA5000s - it can't be something that utilizes a "hook" the Sonys have a wide mesh band and a hook would pierce or at least deform the band.

I love wood, but the standard Sony stand is OK too

BTW I'm cheap  so don't wan't to pay much more than $50 for one

Just for grins, I might put one together for you out of Juniper.  Send me a PM.

In case you or someone else decides to go "not cheap" look at these.  They're available at elusive disc.  No, I'm not affiliated in any way, I just think they look cool.

I did see these, in fact someone brought one to a head-fi GTG I attended a while back and they are nice, but way too damn expensive @ $176 + shipping

Those are nice, and minimalist simple.  I was originally pondering how I might build a rack, and thinking about something adjustable, came up with a design requiring 6 pieces - a base, a column, a cross piece and 3 horizontal supports (2 adjustable).

Now after seeing this, I'm wondering what I would have to charge to render this design in one solid piece of wood.  With it's inherent weight and some non-slip feet, it would be resistant to moving.

If you're looking for a real wood headphone stand I can highly recommend you following source here:

I'm also not affiliated in any way with the builder but what can I say I'm owning one of these.
They are even more beautiful looking in real.

Use a manequin head. They're available. Google is your friend.

I use the inexpensive but padded Sennheiser stand.  It is a small vise grip-like holder that attaches to a bookshelf or any flat surface edge.  $17

would you measure the holder portion for me, how wide is it, and is there any space between it and the "L" portion of the bracket

Appreciate it

Richard

The padded area is 2 3/8" deep and a little more than 3 1/4" wide (from arc to arc).  There is no real space between the edge of the inner pad and the vertical portion of the holder.  However, the vise grip area is small enough that the whole holder can be positioned a couple inches from the edge of a shelf or table top (meaning the vertical portion of the holder does not need to completely abutt the shelf/top).

Thanks, not sure this will work very well the SA5000s have a real deep band and I'm pretty sure it is greater than 2 3/8" by quite a bit.  I would prefer something that is at least as deep as them, but I will double check measurements tonight.  Again, thanks

All of the bananna hangers that I have seen utilize a "hook" and that would tear the SA5000 mesh band.

I use a bannana hanger for my other sets of phones  :D
