So what do you think of the Mazda's?
Funny you should ask (timing-wise). Was very pleased with the initial install in the T-8 here in the office system. Wider, fuller soundstage, more bass oomph, less edge on the high end (speakers Dahlquist DCM-7s). Haven't gotten to changes in the Ultras yet. But have been experiencing some fuzzing with the 1st set. Not sure if it's dust on the switches, dials, have pushed & rotated and that cleaned things up for a bit. However, as I was reading the latest posts, saw yours, and was having more fuzz I thought, well- let's try the other set. Currently everything sounds fine, no fuzzing on the same CD that was playing earlier.
Guess I'd better make the effort to swap things around more in the next day or so, make sure if I had one go bad I can exchange it before the time runs out. They were tested by Upscale, and they put info on the box, but not sure what it means in the 'big picture'. I paired the ones that noted T-1:5900 T-2:5500 with T-1 :5500 T-2: 5700. The other set notes T-1:5100 T-2:5700 & T-1:5200 T-2:5700. I had one of the 6N1Ps go bad in the T-8 on setup, which Frank was most generous enough to replace even though that's not normal practice. Just kind of my luck on things as often as not. Think I'll drop them a note, get some education.
Bottom-line, while I liked the 6N1Ps, I like the Mazdas better in this system. Need to test the Ultra system with the STs, would expect I'd like them even more there, we'll see. ELP's 1st is sounding amazingly full, sweet, & dynamic at the moment.
