AC Pub NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Challenge.
« on: 17 Mar 2010, 03:17 am »
Go to AC Pub Challenge 2010 and join in the fun.  Password for this group is "circle."

Once you have joined, send me $10 per entry to my Paypal account.  Please specify your entry name(s).  PM me for address if you want to send me a check instead.  Winner will receive 50% of the pool and the rest less Paypal fees will be donated to Audio Circle.  This challenge is to promote camaraderie among friends on Audio Circle and is not to be construed as a gambling proposition.  You can enter as many times as you can manage to do so on CBS Sports.com.

My Paypal e-mail can be seen once you join the pool.

Good luck and may the luckiest of us win.

P.S.  You will also be prompted to enter to win an Infinity M.

OK. I'll bite.  What am I doing wrong?   I clicked on the link, joined, added "circle" and then I got the whole bracket system.  I am not (normally) a sports gambler fan.  What do I do next?  Pick a team?  Hell, I don't care as long as its not Kansas.  I'm just in for AC.

You have to pick the winner of each game leading to the final winner.  You put in your guess for the total score (both teams) of the final game which will be the tie breaker in case there is one.  This not gambling.  This is about  showing off your basketball acumen, test your luck and getting bragging rights.  Click on the team on each game to pick.  You can also just choose a "pre-picked" bracket by a sports pundit.

Good luck.

Of course it's not gambling!  In gambling I have a chance!

Wow, that's a lot of work.  Maybe I'll just send $10 to AC and say the hell with it.

Anyway, thanks for the 'splanation.

A few small suggestions, you might put when the deadline for picking brackets ends in the thread title, as I usually procrastinate enough to miss picking a bracket.

Also in light of the whole AV123 charity debacle, I'd make sure you post the results - what amounts went to the winner & AC, and have the receipt of the funds acknowledged. Just seems like a good idea to avoid any drama.

Thanks for doing this.

For those of use who don't watch/don't care about sports, but would like to donate, we need a "quick pick" random bracket generator.  ;-)

The brackets will lock at the first tip off, which is scheduled to be 12:20 PM EDST March 18th.  Payment or payment arrangement will also have to be made by this time or I throw your bracket out.

There won't be any disbursements.

With the money I am skipping town and going to a beach,

play golf,

do some eat'n,

and relax some.

But I need about 992 more entrants to fund the vacation.
So keep them coming.

Hey Chair Guy,

It's the silver anniversary of the 'Nova's championship.  They are a 2 seed.  You don't think Scotty can do what Rollie did?

Hey Rim,

Not with this group...the '85 squad had a real center (Ed Pinckney) and power forward (Harold Pressley) with pro skills. #2 seed was a very kind gesture by the NCAA bracket committee this year.

As the season progresses, intriguing little guard play gradually fades as a winning method.  The BIGS rule once you get to the Sweet 16. 'Nova defense has proved porous late in the season and they have too many ticky-tacky fouls from slow-footed big men Taylor King and Antonio Pena.

Unless their very talented 6'10" Freshman Center (Mouphatou Yarou) shows more life in the NCAA's than he did all season, 6'8" Power Forward Pena will likely be eaten alive if they make it to the Sweet 16. They do have 4 guys that can shoot the three's, two guards that can penetrate and dish as well as any - that could be their only salvation on offense.

They had a real front line last year at 6'8", 6'7" and (athletic) 6'6".  The 6'8" 'center' was Dante Cunningham - a great rookie player with the Portland Trail Blazers today.

1985 was the last year before the shot clock, too, a factor many forget as you could grind out half court offensive schemes and win scoring only 60 points back then (and hold the possession seemingly forever if you had the lead in the end).

From 85-86 thru '93 it was 45 seconds; now it's 35 seconds.

President Obama choose them for the Final 4; he must really hate Duke and Baylor's chances to choose them in the South Regional. I don't see them in the Final 4 this year (2010/11 I like their chances better, actually)

btw, I don't gamble.  Just a thing with me.  If I can't control the wee urges, when the big ones present themselves, I'll have had no prior training in restraint

Payment sent.  Now I am just picking the teams.

I need a shot at redemption against woodsyi from the smackdown he put on me in the AC fantasy football playoffs.

Good luck and thanks for putting this together.   :thumb:

I got lucky in the playoffs.  A couple of you clearly had better teams overall.  I felt like I was running a "replacement" team as I was constantly on the waiver wire trying to pick up a situationally hot player of the week.  I probably had the most transactions of everyone.

Good luck on this one.

All the money will be in and everyone is good to go.  After the first day, it's still wide open as only 3 games separate the top from bottom.  I already have 3 on the wrong side for Sweet Sixteen. :duh:

I'm down 2 in the Sweet 16.  Wonder what kind of odds you could have gotten for ODU, Ohio, and Murray State all getting out of the first round....  Would have loved to have $100 on that one.

Only 56 perfect brackets out of 4.8 million ESPN entries, according to @ESPN_Fantasy.

My alma mater (Lehigh) lost yesterday, but they were a longshot to make it past the 1st round anyway. I'm proud of them making it at all. 1st time since the 80's I believe.

I am SO not alive in this pool anymore.  WOW!   :o

Oh well, makes for a fun tourney.  I was pulling for No. Iowa late, even though I had Kansas winning my pool.  Great stuff!

BTW, 9 entrants...so $45 to the winner and $45 to AC.  There are like 3 that have their winner left, and it's only day 4.   :o :o
