I'm new to this torrent stuff. I downloaded a program called Bit Torrent and installed it. I then clicked on Nine_Inch_Nails_-_The_Slip_-_Flac.torrent and it said it was downloading. I don't know where, though. I guess I'll search for it tomorrow.Chris
No torrent required. Just click on the link and download the files from the NIN website. You'll get get a confirmation email and a link after you've entered your email address.
Actually, torrent is required for all of the high resolution stuff. You're not doing the mpeg thing, are you?
In my system, A million miles away, on 1,000,000, was approximately 2 points forward of the starboard beam, or ENE, if my face were pointed north (between 2 O'Clock and 3 O'Clock, but closer to 3 O'Clock).I could only listen to that track, however, before I thought my head would explode. I need to re-orient myself with some Mia Doi Todd.
Can you elaborate a bit? If you heard that verse at "closer to 3 O'clock", then did you enjoy it? Did it surprise you? From a purely technical/audiophile perspective, did it do any special for anything you?Be frank and forthright, as I would not be offended if you thought that this particular effect or the recording were sub par. I do understand that this particualr material is not everyone's cup of tea, but it's the only source material I know of that is: free, a recent recording, and available in a high resolution formats. If anyone else knows of any other good source material that is available in a free and exchangeable format then I'm all ears.
Listen to any recording mastered with QSound. These phase effects are quite obvious on virtually (emphasis added by me) any playback system, including ones that have Salk speakers.
it seems as if the speakers are performing something particularly impressive: something emanating from the right rear corner of my room *and* pulling off the incredulous act of convincing a bachelor that some other male has physically materialized and intruded in my personal listening space.
For example: the song 1,000,000, track number 2. At approximately 3 minutes into the track Mr. Reznor is repeating the phrase "I don't feel...", and then at 3:34 he can be heard singing the verse "A million miles away..." I hear this verse coming directly in line with my right ear, as if Mr. Reznor is sitting in the right rear corner of my room (my listening seat is up against the back wall; speakers setup ala the Audio Physic method) with his voice sounding so eerily real and creepy. On other tracks, e.g., the track The Four of Us are Dying, I keep my head pointed straight ahead and turn my eyeballs perpendicularly to the left or right and hear the most incredible and lifelike effects. Also, this particualr recording offers a whole lot more than the aforementioned: deep bass, smooth extended highs, a sound stage that extends from wall to wall and deep behind the speakers. At least this what I hear with my HT-2 TL's.If anybody else would like to participate I would really appreciate your comments.Jim, Dennis, if you read this I would also appreciate your comments on this particular recording, especially if you happen to listen to it with your HT-4 prototypes. Edit: System: Lots of RealTraps; Pass Aleph 5 amp; Placette RVC passive; Wavelength Audio Brick Asynchronous USB DAC; custom single board computer Linux USB music server; Salk Sound HT2-TL.
Help an analog guy out. I downloaded the utorrent software, then downloaded the torrent itself onto my Windows desktop but now how do I do anything with it? I tried dragging the icon into Windows Media Player but that didnt work. Help?
...It's amazing what they can do with phasing technology. But this track is far more impressive than ones being discussed in this thread.
