Hi,
I've read on various forums that the length of cable from your mic to audio card should be no longer than 20 feet or the signal will start to degrade or have a higher chance of receiving interference. First, is this true? Second, if it is, are you talking about the distance of the cable from the mic to the preamp, or the distance of the whole signal chain (mic to preamp to any outboard gear like a compressor, and then to the audio card).
If it is just the distance to the preamp, is there a rule of thumb on what the total distance should be from the mic to the preamp, and outboard gear and then to the audio card, before degradation of the signal occurs? This is, of course assuming I am using high end Mogami or Monster cable and all the equipment is balanced.
Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
marsx
