Audio's Ten Commandments
« on: 24 Jan 2010, 12:52 am »
Hi All,

I thought it might be fun to come up with the "TEN COMMANDMENTS OF HIGH END AUDIO".

I have 3 so far:

1.   Your choice of more accurate equipment will mature with age.

2.   Your choices of 'listenable' music will change with age

3.   Your ability to find the volume control and deal with sub menus will deteriorate with age.

4.  You "remember" that:

Your college system

Your first system with separates

Your buddy's budget system

Your system you just upgraded from.................

All did something better than your current "end-all" system.

I am going to respectably hi jack this for one post. I know what you are getting at , but to best express importance i call it the "Holy Trinity of critical listening". Those 3 are :

1: The gear
2: The Ac supply
3: the room or listening environment

In no particular order they represent everthing aspect of audio commandments that i try to improve.

Or drop the stylus onto the record. I've done it before, and luckily no blown tweeters.

Thou shalt not worry about driving the neighborhood dogs beserk.  :nono:

Test tones, sweep waves, electronic music or any strange audio sound can be effective, for this purpose.

When you have made an actual improvement to your stereo system you cannot expect it to sound the same only better. Better is always different from what you have heard before or what you are used to. Much better may require a move to an undiscovered country. Until you understand and embrace this fundamental fact you will never move forward in the hobby. Progress equals change.

Thou shalt never use these two words, together, in a sentence about audio/music

Do not covet the pursuit of audio perfection in vain, for by the time thee can afford thy purist form of audio - your hearing will no longer be and you will never realize thy system‘s true potential.

Be well...
