Which tells you all you will ever need to know about the audio industry, and most  "audiophile" consumers.

    Brett

If that is all you think about the audio industry and most audiophiles, why do you waste your time on this board.?

In amongst the chaff there is occasional wheat. I also get a laugh out of some of the stuff that goes on. :)

John:

I can't agree.  You are selling an undisguised cart.  I am sure that they are great carts, but I doubt that the reseller is touting their research, innovation, and manufacturing in the cart.  Also, the cart is the same cart that can be purchased elsewhere, even with a different name.  The cart isn't disguised to look like their proprietary product.

They claim a higher payload....How can you not see the parrallel?  Unless you refuse to.  I am shocked at the outrage.   cables are a prime example.   As is beer.....is it still too early? :duh:

I would like to see a blind A/B.....anyone? :dunno:

I look at it as amongst the wheat, there is an occasional chaff of which is more of a PIA than actually being beneficial to the field as a whole. Yes, this bit of constant chaff is a joke but it's really not all that funny, more of an annoyance factor actually which is the answer as I see it to Roy's question.  :thumb:

You know, I think that Lexicon has it backwards.

At Audio by Van Alstine we have a reputation in the past of taking old Dyna chassis and installing brand new higher quality circuits inside at a reasonable cost.

At Lexicon, it seems their new reputation is to take off the shelf circuits and put them in a brand new chassis wrapper at an outrageous cost.

Somebody is getting the values of the insides vs: the outsides all mixed up.  :)

Best regards,

Frank Van Alstine

Sadly, Frank I think this may be the new business model for a lot of companies no matter the industry.  I don't like where things seem to be headed for consumers and I'm growing very weary of most any product these days.  Informed consumer or not, not everyone can know everything about every type of product.  There is a certain level of ethics and trust that must be exchanged.  More and more everyday it seems clearer to me that for many it's all about making a quick buck.  Working within loophopes and technicalities seems to be the new practice.

A large proportion of the products in high-end audio are covered by what I once heard Gilbert Yeung of Blue Circle say, "They aw boosh*t."

A large proportion of the discussion on various audio websites is about these boosh*t products.

Maybe it's wheat to you, but I see it as something else entirely. :)

Are you referring to creating new threads, as I was able to post to an existing thread titled "Lexicon BD-30 universal player"?

Steve

I tried to post on that thread. My post was simple enough, "This seems like a clear case of fraud." Audiogon censored it out.

Maybe mine got through because I didn't use the F-word.

Maybe that's because we're living in the Golden Age of Boosh*t

Because this is the Audio by Van Alstine board, where this sort of bullshit is called exactly what it is. You want Audio Basics reference to see a few examples?

Here is another example of "re-branding" posted by Hotsauce on Audiophiletalk.

First see this link:

http://www.linnaudionh.com/amplifiers.html

Now see what appears to be the same products here for a fraction of the cost:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-812

http://www.behringer.de/EN/Products/A500.aspx

The labels on the PE amp appear to crossed off in magic marker.

I am with Brett regarding the audio industry. THIS board is different, as you may notice.

I can't believe that he (David Linn) is serious about this. I can almost see him laughing with us looking at the ridiculous pricing on his website. Anyone who is willing to spend that kind of money would surely know better ... i'd think. But then, who knows ..  :duh: :duh:

I just looked at the links. It seems you are right on the spot. Man, what a markup (Well...at least they claim that they modified it-read Linn Audio NH's summary carefully). I just sent an e-mail to the editor of Audioholics.

Best,
Anand.

I don't think that Parts Express link to the Dayton APA150 is the same as the Linn/Behringer amp.  But here is the amp as it sells at many US vendors:

It’s the same amp.  You can even see a covered up Dayton logo (D) on the front of the amp on Linn audio’s website.  Heck, the “high end interconnect” cables on Linn’s site are also Daytons.

I wonder if he does his own photoshopping?  It's not difficult to tell that all of the photos shown on his gallery page have superimposed images of his $50k speakers.

The well of audiophile nonsense runs deep but I really want to think this is at least a semi-joke...it has to be, right? Right guys?  :banghead:

"Mr. Linn has an obsession with eliminating distortion in his systems.  He has a very sensitive ear for distortion, a unique and probably his greatest talent, that far surpasses the information that can be had from test instruments alone."
