I ended up getting the 1500 watt unit because the 2000 that i had won turned out to be defective.   Replaced the fans with the recomended super quiet type.   The unit is much quieter but still can be heard slightly from my listening position - I'll have to work on that.

As for sound - it sounds great.  Doesn't seem to hurt dynamics.  I've got my whole system plugged in.  The only power hungry piece would be the ati 6012 amp powering my orions.  It's 60 watts per channel (12 available) but only 8 are used for the orion.   Occaisionally I see the 2nd light on the liebert (26-50%) load so I assume I'm ok with the 1500 watt version.  I may get another one for my av system, so i can always get a 2000 and move the 1500 watt version to video.  Though my plasma easily steals 300-400 watts so maybe the bigger unit is for video.

Do "Kill-a-watt" meters benefit from being sourced from 9 - 9ths unobtanium & then cryoed prior to being burnt in for a 1000 hrs?

I'm currently running my Krell S-300, my Oppo BDP-83 SE and my Benchmark DAC off of the UPS and it really seems to make a difference in the quality of the sound.  I have done an a/b between wall power and the UPS and the UPS seems quieter and does not appear to limit the dynamics of the 300wpc Krell.

I run my entire system off my UPS and find no restriction in dynamics at all, even when running in home theater mode. Sound quality is excellent. One of the better additions I made to my system in a long time.

I use powervar and oneac isolation transformers on my computer equipment, so they aren't dumping a lot of trash into the electrical system at my house. (They protect the computers from power issues too.)

I also use one of these for my TV and my video equipment because they all have switching power supplies like the computer equipment.

For my audio gear I just use Tripplite Ultra ISO-Bar power strips. They have surge suppressors and each outlet has its own filtering.

This has all been more than adequate so far.

I'd worry about modifying the Liebert UPSs. The engineers at Liebert select a fan because it provides proper cooling for the UPS. Substituting a quieter fan often means you're reducing the airflow, and that could lead to overheating and failure.

I would think you'd be better off keeping the UPSs stock and putting them in another room.

I'm not concerned. I looked up the specs on the stock fan model and replaced it with a fan of similar airflow, but just a lot quieter. Liebert uses a fan without too much regard to noise level because these UPS units are often in another room or stacked in a rack with a lot of other equipment in a commercial environment. The Liebert also has built-in alarms against overheating, so if there wasn't enough cooling it would let me know.  The "air flow" coming out of my unit is actually quite cool while the system is playing. It's probably much cooler than what the unit would actually encounter in a real world commercial application. YMMV but I'm not concerned at all.

Ok, that sounds reasonable.

Hey Turkey,
I've got my unit running the entire audio and home theater rig, including the projection television. The air coming from the exhaust is very cool. The steel case is almost cold to the touch. After this discovery, I *almost* thought about not using any fans at all. Seems to me the unit doesn't need any.

Almost.

Anyone have good recommendation for a step down transformer.  I saw a 2700va Liebert on ebay but the output states that it is 240v.

TIA

If you're in the NYC area, you are welcome to a either a 3.8kva or 5.7kva OneAC stepdown. in chassis, with 240vac input cord and 120vac outlets, ready to go. The catch is, you've got to take it away and they weigh over 100lbs each.
A $50+ donation to AC would be appreciated.

Anyone interested, PM me.

Paul,

Let me pick up the Liebert.  Waiting for the seller to respond to my question.  Once I get the response I will see if I want to move forward.  If I do you got a deal.
