Tube signal generator
« on: 21 Nov 2009, 12:20 am »
I found a tube op-amp circuit, and was needing it to oscillate at 10khz, and remove s semiconductor from it. I was thinking of a phase-shift oscillator, but wein bridge could work as well. http://www.forsselltech.com/downloads/schematics/VT%20Opamp.PDF

I'm getting a tube oscilloscope in a month or so, and wanted a signal generator of similar internals to go along with it. I'm a big fan of vintage equipment...

The Forssell opamp circuit is pretty cool but personally I would keep the current source on the tail of the diff amp, maybe even add a second device to increase it's effectiveness.

I've never had occasion to build a vacuum tube oscillator but if needed I would pull something out of the Radiotron Designers Handbook or another old textbook. No need to re-invent the wheel for that. Pete Millett has a bunch of them scanned in available for download. http://www.pmillett.com/technical_books_online.htm

Also, there is a ton of stuff on the DU web site. http://mysite.du.edu/~etuttle/electron/elecindx.htm

For some reason, firefox crashes every time I try and download from that site.
Anybody here know why?

Which site? I use FF for both without any problems. Pete's site is pretty slow, so perhaps it's possible FF is becoming non responsive while it's waiting.

Pete's site. I can view datasheets on his site with no problems, but the large files of the book either produce an error and it stops loading, or it locks up and crashes. Latest version with default settings, running on xp (also factory) so maybe that's why. I should be able to view them in a month though.

I never try and open PDF's inside of a browser, which it sounds like you're doing. Save the file and then open it, should work much better. Assuming my guess is right of course. :)

Tried both. When I get a new laptop, I'll be running linux, and can fool around with the firefox settings.
