If you don't mind my asking, is that a window on the left and a diffuser on the right?  If so, how was the window treated?

Beautiful room!

They look like two matching windows (with left side blinds open slightly) to me but I could be wrong...

I was thinking about picking up some GIK panels myself.

Just got this picture from a local customer. I was like WOW!!

Glenn, I'm wondering if those ceiling soffits are also acoustically treated for bass? Sure would help make for a killer room if they are as they remind me of the discontinued Real Traps Soffits. Thanks.

Cheers,
Robin

They actually are not treated for low end yet.  There were some other priorities in this room...low-hanging fruit, acoustically speaking.  We hit all of those areas first knowing that we could always get the soffits later if they proved to be sonically significant.

hi jonathon,

the 2 windows on the right and left were not treated  per se, but i used the wooden blinds on both as  diffusers, if you will.

the sofits are not treated for low-end, yet.

the entire room ,though, was constructed from the studs up,  using auralex ,mineral fiber in between,  homauset  bords and rubber vinyl as isolators /insulators. then came a 3/8" sheet rock.

Ozy:
Are those amplifiers or subwoofers on the floor behind each loudspeaker?

hi chris,
these are the gryphon colleseum  monoblocks behind the speakers.
the tidal speakers' bass is very tight and pronounced ,that no subs are needed.
hope to see you next week at ces-where will you be dispalying?

 hapy new year,

Oded:
Good to hear from you. Skipping CES this year.
Just wanted to offer a couple suggestions on placement of the amps for better soundstage. Because they are so big (have a large reflective surface), they act like mini walls and their placement will affect midrange and bass performance quite a bit. Move them (if possible) directly behind the speakers so they are not visible when sitting in the center listening position. They should not be parallel with the walls but toed-in and parallel with the speakers. He will get a wider soundstage with more solid focus in the midrange of the sonic images. The high frequencies will also open up a little bit as well. Now, you can adjust the amount of perceived midbass/bass relative to the midrange by how close or far you place the amps to the speakers. Moving them closer to the speakers will increase the bass/midbass and farther away will decrease. So you can tweak the bass to midrange relationship in this manor. The amps should be absolutely symetrical to their respective speaker--if one is 24.5" behind, so should the other one. Also keep them the same distance from the side wall otherwise you willl get a slight imbalance on one side and imaging will not be as tight. To find the right balance takes some trial and error, place the amps listen to a few songs, move the amps listen to the same songs, etc.... but the payoff will be worth it. My concept of furniture & equipment placed symmetrical to the loudspeakers (whenever possible) applies to everything in the room. It looks like the equipment rack in the picture is pretty symmetrical with a similar amount of equipment on each of the 2 racks with the height being close as well. Next time you're there measure the distance from the right rack to the right speaker and the left rack to the left speaker--move one to match the other as closely as possible. Won't be a big sonic difference but should be audible, with better image focus. I know this is pretty tweaky stuff but with a dedicated audio room and this class of equipment, it will be worth the effort.

thanks a lot ,chris,

i will defenitely try to move the amps(they weigh185lbs each), behind the speakers, symetrically.

sorry you won't be at ces . happy new year, and all my best.

Hey guys,

So I got to go out to ozy's house yesterday and check out his room. IMG is really all I can say. Save up your money and duplicate his system (please with the acoustics also ). Needless to say there are a few things I want to do with his room which we are going to do everything in the GIK Custom Shop so the sky is the limit. I will keep you all updated on it with photos as things come together.

BTW ozy is a super guy. Trying to get him to come out to RMAF this year!

Any thoughts you'd like to share on what you have in mind or is that to be determined? Thanks.

Well that would take all the surprise out of it. Would it not????
We are not finale but maybe custom Monsters to the front (make to cover the whole 8' corner instead to stacked), some custom diffusion on the upper sides (zinging going on) and some stuff for the ceiling. I also wanted to build a custom beer tap right by the listening spot but that might or might not happen (I KID).
All of this is subject to change as Bryan is still getting up to speed on it.

Just a note I am flying out of the country next week so this is not all going to happen super fast, but will keep you all updated as we do things.
