Behringer Lights Went out
« on: 5 Nov 2009, 04:13 am »
So I just happened to notice that the lights on my Behringer DCX 2496 are no longer shinning.  The only thing that the display shows is the green "configuration" diagram.  The red LED lights are not displayed so it is not really a disappointment.  The music seems to be fine but I just wonder what the issue could be?

Any of you guys ever experienced this on the DCX?

I actually like the fact that they are not displayed,  never really liked the irrelevant dancing lights!!

Sounds like a loose ribbon cable connector to the front panel.  Do any of the switches work?  How about the graphic display window?

Tom,

I have not turned the unit on/off or changed any of the settings.  As I said, the green lcd that shows the "configuration" is still lighted.  None of the red lights are working.  The unit has not been moved at all so not sure how the ribbon would just come loose?

The sound seems to be fine and I am not really wanting the lights back on.  Really just wondering if anyone has experienced this before?  Or if it is a sign of the unit going bad?  It is less than 2 years old.

Mine has worked fine, it's age is unknown as I bought it used a couple years ago.
I'm curious as to the cause (mainly in case mine does it), but know exactly what you mean about not wanting the dancing light display.
Although, Christmas is coming up. The red and green lights would provide ambiance.

Hmmm... Interesting James.
Do you have any plans on "popping the top"? or as long as it sounds good, you'll leave well enough alone?

Bob

p.s. OT - Just curious, are you using the PC remote function?

Not familiar with the pc remote feature? I never turn the unit off so don't know if I would have a use for a remote.

I do plan on leaving it alone at this time.

The "remote" thing isn't a "remote" like you'd use with your TV. I may have chosen the wrong words.
The "remote" I meant was the ability to control the DCX via it's RS-232 jack to your PC.
Dude, I'm here to tell 'ya what....The ability to "diddle" with the DCX settings while seated at your PC is truly something to behold. It's rather nice to alter the crossover point, delay, gain, etc... on any of six channels at any point in time. All the while sitting in my easy chair.

Leaving it alone might be best. If the SQ hasn't been affected, you never know what kind of can-o-worms you'd be opening up by cracking the case. Although, if you do open it up, you'd have the opportunity to do some mods while you're in there.  aa

Bob,

I have actually modded the unit already with the Digital Out board.  This is to send the digital signal straight into the digital Panasonic amps.

Check out my signature for details.

What more do you suggest?  I don't do any ADC or DAC so what options should I look for?

So I was curious and just powered the unit off and then back on and guess what?  All the lights came back on!  CRAP- I wish I could turn them off without affecting anything else.  Oh well, strange event none-the-less.

Oh, I don't know. There's a bunch of caps in there. Looks like a good place to start.
I recently bought a bare modded PC board for the digital input. Cost me $9. Although I'm not sure I'm capable of soldering surface mount chips.  :?

The lights on mine annoy me too. I've thought about making a piece of smoked (very dark) acrylic that's as wide as the DCX, and as tall as the face but has a long 'l' shaped edge that would sit under the unit. That would tone down the light show but still allow you to see what's going on.
