Putting lipstick on a pig

It is with heavy heart that I finally had to sell my beloved Michell Gyro SE turntable with Rega RB600 tonearm and Benz ACE cartridge.  Gone but not forgotten.  The money is nice, though.  Subtract $106 from that and I was able to put this old Technics back into commission with the addition of a Shure M97xE cartridge.

Christened with some dullsville test record and then local go-to vinyl favorite "One World" by the Police from "Ghost In The Machine" and it would seem that Bob's my uncle.  Still runs into the sweet Monolithic PS-1 Phono amp and HCB-1 power supply (Yeah, like I can tell what a power supply sounds like...well, it looks nice anyway) although with new settings for this cart.

The aesthetic sacrifice from Gyro to Technics is most egregious, obviously.  So I thought maybe if I gussied up this old tank with some moderately pretty photography, all would be made right with the world.

Nathan, interesting title :D I like the spinning platter and record in the background of the first image... what if the record was in focus but spinning, and the cartridge was out of focus?

Sorry to hear of your loss :(

Focus is a tricky thing with these small-sensor cameras.  Aren't there like these teent tiny micro stepper motors inside these things?  That's one reason I like the 4x5, the movements are fairly coarse and manageable, on a more human scale.

The focal plane of the cart and the platter are probably within the same area, so I think it's just the motion blur that makes the platter soft.

The Technics deck does one thing that the Gyro didn't: it gets up to speed right quick!  No lolly gagging with that wee belt.  (I think this may be the first time I've ever written out the word lolly gagging. Not sure I got it right.)

Yep, except for the space.  lollygagging per Merriam Webster

Now it's the first time I've ever used it, too!

Thanks srb!  I thought maybe it could be hyphenated, but one word is good too.  Besides "dawdle" it could also be what happens if you're sucking on a lolly (so British) and you trip and fall.

Nathan, please see the third paragraph of this post for proper posting etiquette in this Circle.

Anyway, nice picture of a fine looking turntable. Especially the first photo. Well, except for all the dust on the cart.

I don't think he should loose too much sleep over it, misspelling's are common on the interwebs.

It's the trying that's important, the desire to want to be correct.  Many do not even try and are even proud of this fact.  Not at AC generally speaking, though.

I agree that one should try to use proper english, but it can be difficult on the internet. I often make mistakes in haste that make me cringe when I read them later.
