Anyone buying the new remastered cd's from the Beatles?  In stereo or mono? and why?
I heard Katy Kruse on 96.3 talking about someplace has all 14 remastered cd's for 9 dollars each or so.  Any conformation?

Thank you.

I've heard the same and am in the camp of remastered - excited yes.
Remastering mono to stereo or stereo to mono - not sure I would spend that kind of money on an all or nothing set. I've heard mono recordings of past where they tried to remake into stereo version and really preferred the original format.I look forward to the remastering and hope to buy them if they come out individually as originally intended.

Hi Bo,
96.3 said that Vintage Vinyl has them individually for 9 (or was it 9.99) ea. They were playing the White Album on the ride home, sounded really good, although possibly a touch bright?
IIRC the first 2 or was it 4 albums were mastered on 4 track and G. Martin said a good stereo mix wasn't possible on the original CD release, ie Mono, like you I'm curious what they did this time?

Apparently the use of normalization was minimized, but used more on the stereo mixes 'for a modern audience'.  With the mono mixes they wanted to preserve the original dynamics so avoided it.

Also when originally mixed in the 1960's more production time was spent on the mono mixes and there are more subtleties.

See, I would like to hear both the stereo and mono versions to see where I should spend the dough.  I am more interested in the mid to later albums from them.  Anyone going to VV to buy them?  Slackers in Glenn Carbon said theirs were coming in today and would be around $15 each.

I bought the Stereo set to go with my Anthology collection, and my DVD-A "Love".  (I never picked up any Beatles vinyl - I was a Moody Blues / Pink Floyd type back in the day), but these do sound better than the 1987 released CD's of Revolver and Rubber Soul I picked up.  Well worth the the money.  BTW, Amazon has the Stereo set for $ 180.00.

I have the Mono set and have listened to them all.  I got the Stereo set about a week back but may not get to listen to them for a few weeks due to stuff scheduled (Thanksgiving) and vacation in between.  I got both of mine via mail order.  I've heard that Costco has the Stereo box set for $174?  I have not looked yet.   Enjoyed the Mono box set.  I had (actually still have them) most of the original LPs (in horrible beat up condition played on crappy equipment 40+ years back and I never sold them when I got rid of my records as they weren't sellable as records vs. the value of the covers) and many of them were in Mono.  I am looking foward to hear the Stereo set.  There was some content in the Mono set with an alternative stereo mix.

I got the stereo set when it first became available on an advanced order basis before it hit the street. I've thoroughly enjoyed this set, even though I've also heard the argument that the mono recordings are more true to the original spirit of the music. Then again, I thoroughly enjoyed George Martin's "Beatles Love" mash-up production that was made for Cirque de Soleil, as well.

The stereo version offers some "surprises" in the mix. I think that this is a result of fact that some of us remember every single nuance of almost every Beatle's tune. We memorized every lick and knew every line... burned in our hearts and brains. This, of course, was a time when we would stay sleeplessly up at night, and at the edge of our pillows, because we knew the local AM radio station was just about ready to play the latest Beatles release for the first time. So, when something comes across a little different, the ears perk up and say, "Hmmm. Listen to that" or "Hey, I didn't remember that..." I had the same experience when listening to "Let It Be Naked" after getting all of Phil Spector's noise out of there.

I haven't yet heard the mono set, and I bet I would love those too. Been thinking of ordering it.
