I got the stereo set when it first became available on an advanced order basis before it hit the street. I've thoroughly enjoyed this set, even though I've also heard the argument that the mono recordings are more true to the original spirit of the music. Then again, I thoroughly enjoyed George Martin's "Beatles Love" mash-up production that was made for Cirque de Soleil, as well.
The stereo version offers some "surprises" in the mix. I think that this is a result of fact that some of us remember every single nuance of almost every Beatle's tune. We memorized every lick and knew every line... burned in our hearts and brains. This, of course, was a time when we would stay sleeplessly up at night, and at the edge of our pillows, because we knew the local AM radio station was just about ready to play the latest Beatles release for the first time. So, when something comes across a little different, the ears perk up and say, "Hmmm. Listen to that" or "Hey, I didn't remember that..." I had the same experience when listening to "Let It Be Naked" after getting all of Phil Spector's noise out of there.
I haven't yet heard the mono set, and I bet I would love those too. Been thinking of ordering it.
