aa What makes this movie good is its different, changed expectations.Yes it may have its faults but thats not the point.

interesting the charachter was a nerd with a hot wife, the corporation was again evil and humanity was less humane that the inhumans. :duh:

Good scifi makes us think outside the box (ie. like the 1st Terminator did) and i think this movie did just that...Kudos aa

I have no doubt that the human race is capable of many and frequent atrocities. I didn't buy into the main  actor or their organization as anything more then a joke who would never have been left in charge of anything as important as alien technology. Do you really think he had the key code to get in the  med lab.   Way to many holes in the plot for me.actually the 6 minute film this movie was based on is better then district 9

Do not want to get into the evil word around here starting with "P," but there are plenty of knuckle heads in real life that take charge of many important things.  Worser than the knuckle heads that run things into the ground are the people who point their fingers in disbelief once the media begins make a crusade about its abhorrent nature.

For too many of these Hollywood creations we need to be either dru-k or just play dumb or else there is no point of going to the movies.

Shucks, I now have a tendency of glossing over the worst if not ALL the creative offenses of a movie or else I would hate myself for having spent $11 to watch a garbage piece.   :duh:

Saw it last night with the family. It definitely takes a bit of time to get into the story. It's a real eye opener in terms of human nature, or at least South African nature (with a lot of hints at Apartheid and it's inhuman treatment of people) ...

- nerd gets a position of authority and is a klutz
- nerd starts exerting his power and begins doing some bad things for personal interest
- nerd has an accident and begins getting concerned
- nerd begins changing and looking for help/sympathy
- others around him give him back the unconcern and person interests that he used to give out himself
- nerd is still looking out for himself and is only working in his own self interest
- nerd finally sees beyond himself
- nerd looks back in sorrow

I have mixed feelings about this one.  A swiss cheese plot prevents me from doing any serious examination but many of its basic points are obvious and sobering.  I appreciate the effort, a solid movie but nothing above the norm.

This was an excellent movie, the feeling of initial chaos and pulling you in was great. Also the way the story didnt fill you in and left you outside understanding the alien race and giving you the view that they were subhuman and the treatment of the aliens in this manner was ok. The story exerts itself far beyond the movie and is a timeless moral tale. The main character was forced into companionship with that which he saw far beneath him. HE betrayed the new trust and in the end the real human purpose emerged. A strong story with original story telling techniques (film style) make this a movie to remember.

The CG was spectacular and I think some of the best I have seen in terms of realness.  I couldnt tell that oh yeah thats CG.
Really enjoyed this.

Ed, I'm with you on this one.  I thought the premise was interesting, as were some of the filmmaking choices (eg. making it a pseudo-documentary, giving it an "underproduced" look/feel, etc).  But for me, it bordered too strongly on "Independence Day"...would have been much better if they did away completely with all the action and just focused on the political/emotional/etc aspects of the film...

Well it's true, this movie did make me deplore the human race!  Well, human culture at any rate.  And I don't mean any themes raised by the movie itself, I mean that people make and see this kind of stuff.  I just think there's something wrong with us when we want to willingly introduce so much filth, gunk, anger, hatred, horror and violence into our lives and call it entertainment.  I dunno, maybe it was just because I felt nauseous from motion sickness, but these kind of movies are like 2 hours of trauma.  And the filth, what's with the filth!?  Everything about this movie was dirty and disgusting!  It's like the overly clean look of the 1950s has come full circle and now we're making our films look like they are soaked in motor oil.  I think the ratings people are to blame because of their silly aversion to the color red.  Now every bit of blood has gotta look blackened.

It is a unique film and I will probably have different feelings about it later on, but right now I found it to be vulgar and ultraviolent.  Maybe I am just turning into a fussy old grandmother or something.  I can see from the online reviews that I am clearly in the minority.
