All I have connected so far is my Bcd-1(AES connected)Have been thinking of
trying out my starchoice receiver(optical out for the radio stations)on her.and then pondering the squeezebox 3 and internet radio.
I think I'm we'll prepared for anything that comes out in the future.I'm in no
rush as I really like my BCD-1 :thumb:.

opto 1 : Plasma tv
opto 2 : computer
coax 1 : BCD-1
coax 2 : minidisc recorder
bnc 1  : minidisc recorder (for comparison)
bnc 2  : dvd player
aes/ebu: BCD-1
usb : computer

cables from bnc1 & bnc 2 are rca(coax) to bnc cables. i am using the rca and the balanced outs of the BDA-1 into the 26 preamp.

Dolby Digital is delivered in packets much like internet protocol.  So basically it is either there or not there.  Here's a little info - http://www.dolby.com/consumer/technology/dolby-digital-details.html

That's why many home theater enthusiasts don't understand and think of audiophiles as lunatics (so we are a little crazy - I had a friend call me last night and wanted to know if it was over the top to have the electrician come in and put a separate circuit in for his system and I said yes it is over the top and that's what we do :green: - I usually am the one they call to confirm their sanity - don't know why as I have be worse than most) and think a digital cable has ones and zeros flowing up and down it for PCM transmission.

Mixed bag. There is a definite increase in clarity and quality, but on those programs which I assume are mixed in 5.1, the dialog is sometimes very quiet with effects and music coming in dramatically louder.  Not going back to analog though.

drummer,

the BDA-1 betters the sound of my tv. but i expected that anyway...
usually the sound of a flatscreen becomes thin when it comes to serious volumes. and i just like the idea that everything goes through 'my Bryston'.

Hi Al,just did a cable hunt in my cable closet and,What's That,an optical cable.
Almost felt like Tim Allen in the tool dept.in Canadian Tire ARRGHH.
I must be a neanderthal getting excited over putting the sat thru the BDA-1,
but I LIKE IT as it's way better than the tv speakers :thumb:.Thanks.

xbox 360 via toslink, takes the gaming on xbox up a few notches. Gears of war2 is actually pretty funny now to listen too as i can make out the locust's low rumbling threats as they attack.

Hi Don, the Squeezebox is new and I have only listened to internet radio and this has led to variable results, I suppose due to various streaming rates.

I live in Canada and listen to off-cable music provided by the CBC. It is of very high quality (through a good DAC) and in my opinion, equivalent to CD in sound. I have managed to find these same channels via the Squeezebox off the internet and they also do sound pretty good. I haven't had the time to do extensive comparisons, however.

The plan is to buy a Mac mini and start ripping all my CD's at full resolution. It will be very interesting to see how it works, once everything is in place.
