Just checked out the new Squeezebox(the touch)out in december.
I believe she'll act as a music server,will pass 24/96 and also a 32 gig card slot
It will be quite interesting to see how the reviews go when she's out.

In the case of my BDA-1, a heavily modified Teac VRDS-25X (1998) feeds the AES/EBU digital input with the balanced analogue output feeding a BP-26, which drives a Son of Ampzilla 2000 power amp which drives Tannoy System 15 DMT II monitors. So far, I can't tell the difference between having the upsampling on or off.

The Squeezebox Touch does support 24bit / 96kHz sampling rates and can play back files off a USB drive or SD card.  I have been looking for a device that supports high-res downloads from a memory card playback.  Once it becomes available I will have to pick one up for $300 and plug it into my BDA1.

Thanks for pointing this out.

That's what I want to do also, then I've justified purchasing the BDA-1,I'm waiting for my Alesis 9600 CDR,(replaced my HHB cdr)I believe that can go out
of the digtal bypass output of the BDA-1 into the Alesis.
I did (finally) run my sat receiver into the BDA,not bad, some stations so,so.
For background music, alot better than the TV speakers :thumb:.

One of the things I really appreciate about the BDA (besides the sound quality) is the usefulness of having multiple digital inputs that are switchable via the remote.

The remote was a good investment even though I don't use a Bryston preamp.

hi, all!

what do you think?

my computer has a analog stereo input. and i'd like to do some recordings from a Minidisc recorder. i am using the coax from MD to BDA-1.

now what analog output should i use?
1) the BDA-1's analog outs (unbalanced in this case)
2) the BP26's analog tape output

the XLR outs of the BDA-1 are connected with the 26. that way the recording is still audible.

Very nice Keith,I like that.

It's a nice rig. If I ever get bored someday I'll try the DAC in the Transporter against the BDA-1

At least I can dabble with some of the other hi-def file formats (as you can see the BDA-1 is actually locked into a 24/48 signal in the pic. So, that part works :)

Keith,it will be interesting for me to see what you discover musically with the transporter and  the BDA-1 8),something else for  me to think about.
I could and might try out a squeeze box just to see if it can satisfy me a little more, course were never satisfied. These devices do open up a lot more doors
and hopefully i'll like what I hear :thumb:.

Keith

Well, i guess last night i inadvertantly compared the BDA-1 to the Transporter DAC :duh:

I buddy loaned me a new set of RCA cables to try so I hooked them up night before last. So, last night I figured I'd just listen to some music and try to see the impact of the new cables.

I powered up the stereo and started listening to an album that I'm really familiar with (and I play to death!). It all sounded great on most stuff, but the more busy passages I thought weren't as clear. I thought, funny that the cables (Furutech) seemed to be not as good as the ones i would be replacing if I went with the new ones

It still sounded good...just something was amiss from time to time. Then i noticed the red light over the BDA-1 power switch....so, if the BDA-1 is not on....what am i listening to!!!

Turns out I accidentally plugged the RCAs into the Slim Devices Transporter and not the BDA-1 :o

I swithched back and there it was.....the BDA-1 just sounded a little better. the DAC on the Transporter is good, though..really good. But I like the BDA-1 better..it just seemed to handle the passages that were 'busier' a little better, more defined.

I could live with both...but the Transporter will continue to be fed digitally to the BDA-1.
