Anyone here want to sell me an extra TT?
« on: 24 Jul 2009, 11:11 pm »
Hey guys,  I'm in the market for a entry level type TT (which I call < 1.5K for TT,Arm, cartridge) and an entry level phono preamp (maybe 3-600bucks)  I'm wanting to see what I can get here before searching through all the A'gon ads.

Got a chance to hear Woodsyi 's  vinyl setup last weekend and it was awesome.  We did a neat comparison of the same recording on top notch digital and LP.  Now I'm 100% ready to take the plunge, although on a much smaller scale.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations even if you don't have 3-4 TT's laying around.  :)

i cannot believe this has not sold yet.  (or has it?)

i would also be looking for any used empire in good shape.  if you have a stable platform, the unsuspended earlier units would be a good choice, as they have a heavier platter than the later sprung iterations, except for the rare 498, which has a heavier platter, and suspension.  but, all the suspended empires are more difficult to mount upgraded arms to...  empires are on ebay all the time, and are hard to beat, imo, for anywhere near the money, especially if the arm is upgraded.  but, that technics sp10 w/sumiko ft-3 arm is also a fantastic deal...

Rob,

For the price you quote you can get a good used VPI Scout, Basis 1400, or Rega with a good cartridge.  There are lots of good used phono preamps from $300-$600.  Many of them will give you a great big taste of the vinyl nirvana you seek. The Jolida 9 is a bargain, but you must replace the stock tubes and should damp the ringy cabinet.

I suggest you buy used gear to start with. You can learn what you like without buying new and then get most of your investment back when you upgrade.   Btw, it was nice meeting you and your bro at Woodsyi's.

I've got a stock AR-XA (that I'm NOT willing to part with) that would be a great starter TT.
I heard my very own humble little table on a super system with top notch pre's and Maggies, and it sounded great.
Just throwing that out there.
These can be found for <$200.

Rob, I've got the turntable package for you, only slightly more than your budget.  But if you want to REALLY try vinyl, try it with the best!!  aa

Since you probably already heard it at Woodsyi's, the phono stage is an absolute no brainer....

Vista Audio Phono 1

At 300 bucks, it will compete with units costing $1000 and more!

I have one of those.  At that price, it's a steal!

I have a SOTA Sapphire TT with a Syrinx PU3 arm that I will sell for $800.  The plastic lid is cracked at the hinge but the table, arm, etc are fine.  VERY heavy.

I LOVE my Jolida JD9.  I think it is a bargain at roughly $400.  Underwood Wally does mods as well if you want to beef it up.  I have not.  For now, I'm already in heaven!

Still listed this morning.  I don't need it, but am tempted.
