Hi All,

Five star ***** review for the Bryston Baby amp (2B) and BP16 preamp in British Magazine Hi-Fi Choice.

This raises a question for me: how similar, sonically speaking, are the power amps?  If a 3B is enough power for my application, will I be as happy with it as I would be with a 4B or higher?

Hi  drubin,

Bryston does not use a better/best approach in the design of our products. The amplifiers all share the same quality circuitry- the size of output section and the power supply changes as required.

It truly is an 'application' choice rather than a 'performance' choice.

Hi James,
this review and many more raised the following question.Does the software volume control in BP16 and B100 is the only reason for not having balance connection as is mention in the reviewer.Next question is what type is the volume of BP26?

Hi Daniel,

No the volme control has nothing to do with the balanced option on the preamps. The BP16 is the front end of the B100 integrated amp so offering it as a preamp was a good cost effective way to provide our customers with a full featured preamp.

The Balanced out from a BP16 preamp would not apply of course given it was designed as an integrated amp originally.

Thanks for the quick reply James.
The question raised as there isn`t mention anywhere about the volume control of BP26.
I understand from the posts in Audiocircle that the balance connection is only to eliminate the noise pick up in the hooked cable between two units and also ground loops.

Correct.... Balanced lines prevent outside electrical interference from contaminating the signal due to common mode noise rejection in the balanced connectors and circuits at the source and receiving end of the product. The longer the cable run the more potential for noise pickup.

Also if i may add, balance cables dont use any unusually  windings within the electrical cable itself. These winding tend to make the cable longer. In other the words one mtr of bal is shorter than a one meter of single ended(as far as internal wiring is concerned). Longer cables make it harder for the source component to drive. Not really a big deal in one meter but in further lengths it is.

Hi werd,
I will stay my objections.
The balance cable opposite to singlre ended ones are a twisted pair or in quad version 2 pairs. The RCA cables offerwd by Bryston are actualy a coaxial type. My are identical to Bryston with the only difference that I made them myself stealing the knowledge of Bryston people about cables and connections. Why should seaking for right answer somewhere else.
I`m using the phisical balance cable used by Bryston for their balansed cables to rewired my Sennheiser Headphones .
Balanced lines can be run for hundreds of yards without sacrifising the sound opposed to single ended whre you are limited to about 10ft.
