John Mayer vinyl is among the worst sounding mastering/pressing I've ever heard. Just because it's on vinyl doesn't make it automatically better.. the person doing it has to actually care, have an ear, and the talent and tools to make a good record. It's a tall ask.-C
Pat Metheny's newer stuff though they are getting ready to release his latest on vinyl.
Very interesting question and with a twist to the equation at least is that, taking into account of the music i normally listen to / buy today, (black keys, m83, St vincent , Reginia spector)with the resurgence of vinyl is all being released on vinyl which is a good thing but the problem is a lot of the music was recorded and mastered in the digital world ie there never was a analog copy. Which i find means that there is not a big difference between the cd and the lp. I have a copy of the new fever ray cd and lp you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two, which is not the case on older stuff. With all that being said i'll take two Nick cave albumsLet love in and murder ballads
I'll bet by the early 80's, almost every LP printed was recorded in the digital domain.Wayner

And Lene Lovich's Stateless British release on red vinyl. Analog all the way!Paul
the white stripes are believers in analog, ie vinyl from what I have heardicky thumps sounds pretty darn good considering the medium
