I've lost my damn mind!!!
« on: 2 Jul 2009, 01:54 am »

This is what happens when I sit around the house too long.  MerRev drop everything and get your Lowther OB done.
Should I call these "Lowthers-on-a-stick" or something related to the music stands I cannibalized.  I've got the Eros bass cabinets working up to 450 Hz and the Lowther PM6A going from the midrange on up powered by the Yamamoto.  There are about 1000 reasons this shouldn't work, but you need to come out and hear it anyway.

You lost your mind a long time ago, Mark.  That is the true definition of open baffle, or baffleless. You may want to arrange your books symmetrically in the bookcases. I like the tube amp right in front of the AC too. Genius!! Can't wait to hear it!

I am not a fan of single driver setups, and yet that looks like fun.  The Innersounds look like  more fun.  :thumb:

The Yamamoto likes her tubes cooled.   She's sporting a new Emission Labs 5U4G so things are glowing pretty at night.  The Lowther "no baffle" is just plain cool.  You may also notice the plastic carpet runners to catch the drool.

On the audio side of things, the Lowther no baffle lacks the tight image focus of the panel, but brings a natural timbre and quick transients to the sound.  Sure is easy to move the heads towards the listening area depending on how much treble you're searching for.  I really enjoyed the Bach unaccompanied cello suites with Yo-Yo Ma and am listening to the Delos version of Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale" conducted by Schwarz.  Tony Plog plays the trumpet parts so well. Wish I could play like that.

My PM6A were used and I bought them from Jon Ver Halen.  They are certainly smooth in this application.  Matter of fact, I doubt anyone would guess Lowther if you weren't looking right at them.  Pretty amazing, all things considered.

Hey Nels!!  Oh, the Innersounds are just fantastic.  But I needed something to do while I'm waiting for the Audiomods arm to come in.  Great review!!! Thanks again for the tip.

Cool, you finally got them done  :thumb: Hey, if you want to have a go at making a pair of baffles, I've just about got them down pat.

Nels, trust me. When you come up, you will never look at a single driver system the same way again. I'd almost be willing to bet that when you leave, you'll be drinking the Koolaid too

You know Scott, if you hadn't caused me to spend all my fun money this week, I'd consider the clear baffle.  :(

congrats on the tonearm upgrade Mark and also for a job well done on the Lowther stickman project.   :green:
You'll have to share the name with us once you settled on something.  Scott and I are on the home stretch on the clear plexi panels and hope to have them singing soon.  At one point we kicked around the idea of a industrial but modern black acrylic panel without all the woodwork which would really make the build a lot easier.

Headphone amp?  Maybe I'll try that this afternoon.  aa  I'm taking the LMP (Lowther Music Posts) to Scott's house tonight to see if they like Altec bass bins.
