I want compression
« on: 30 Jun 2009, 07:36 pm »
I never thought I'd ask, but I'm doing a lot of traveling and I can't play my uncompressed ituned iPod in the car.  The problem is that the dynamics of classical music is beaten by the roar of the road.  Radio compression makes listening to music much easier.  Is it possible to dial in that sort of compression in iTunes?

Sounds like you might need some dynamat treatment and some different tires.

Isn't there a feature in most players or rippers for volume leveling?

From what I can tell, if you're on a PC the best way to do it is create another library with the Compression applied using Foobar and VLevel plug-in.

There doesn't seem to be a way to do it on the fly with an iPod or mp3 player, that I was able to find in my brief search.

I have the same issues, since I have a convertible, and just have gotten use to keeping my thumb on the steering wheel volume control.

I went to look at my iPod to check the setting, but the battery just went dead!

It is called Sound Check under Settings, and provides some measure (not adjustable. it is either on or off) of compression/limiting.
