I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction on this one.

I bought a Gigawork 24/192 upsampling DAC off ebay from a vendor in Hong Kong. My goal is to convert my first generation Mac Mini into a music server.

I hooked the unit up to the Mini via USB and ran an RCA connection to my Yamaha integrated. No output.

I checked the Sound setting in System Preferences and everything seemed okay (USB codec is visibile and USB out seems to be selected). But still no sound.

I tried making the connection over Optical but no dice.

I removed the USB upsampling card and set the jumpers to not upsample and tried the connections again. Still no sound. (The Mini internal speaker does play though.)

I changed over to my Powerbook and tried again. Same results.

Suggestions?

make sure the settings are correct like you first did and restart the computer.  I've found that the computer doesn't like when I unplug the USB cable then plug it back in.  When I restart, it's fine.

You need to go to the "Audio MIDI Setup" app under Applications/Utilities and select the DAC as your default output.

I went to the Midi utility and now have music.

I recommend if you're going to switch the Audio Midi settings much, to get the SoundSource menu bar extra.
