I'll have more thoughts to share in a few days, but quick impression over a few hours yesterday and today is this is a terrific little amp that is dead dead, really dead quiet, has oodles of detail, great tonality, images and stages well, and delivers good extension on both ends of the spectrum. It has that signature Dodd sound with nice warmth and weight, but also good air and sparkle. I'll get into some more detail after a few more days, but it really is a little sweetheart piece of gear. At the cost being targeted, it looks like it will be a terrific bargain.
It's a prototype, so I have no way to comment on fit and finish, but Gary usually comes up with good looking gear so no worries there to speak of.
It can be overdriven in my system, I'm guessing due to the "harder to drive than they appear on paper" nature of my arrays and the size of my room, and Gary said he could make higher powered versions as needed, but it delivers nicely into the high 80's and handles both complex and simple musical structures quite easily at reasonable listening levels. Some of the higher efficiency speakers asked about earlier in this thread, in the right size room, should have no problems at all getting solid, even pronounced, listening levels.
Best amp ever? I'm not a believer in best anything in our subjective hobby, but kudos to Gary on this design, I'm looking forward to some more fun with this baby in the next few days. It's really unique and sounds quite excellent.
P.S. Yes, the bass was very solid with it.
